Description

- E. DEVICE PERMITTING A CLOSING VARIATION OF THE SPRAYERS NEEDLE IN DIESEL MOTORS Filed-Nov. 10, 1924 Patented Nov. 9, 1926..
UNEIED STATES htdtfidti PATENT @FMQE.
EITRICO HOCKE, OF GENOA, ITALY, ASSIGNOR TO ANSALDO SOOIETA Anonnaa, or
GENOA, ITALY.
DEVICE PERMITTING A CLOSING VARIATION OF THE SPRAYERS NEEDLE IN DIESEL MOTORS.
Application filed November 1Q, 1924, Serial No.
The present invention relates to a device permitting a closing variation of the sprayers needle in Diesel-motors the opening moment remaining constant in combination with reversal of stroke. a
The invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 shows the head of the cylinder with the sprayer and apparatus of exhaust reversal with governor,
Fig. 2 shows a side view of reversal governing,
Fig. 3 is a vertical section of Fig. 2.
It is of a great importance in Dieselmotors, subject to remarkable variations of load and number of revolutions, to advance the dosing of the sprayers needle according to the dimunition of power or of the number of revolutions in the motor. This is absolutely necessary to obtain a perfect combustion whatever the load may be, and it is very diflicult to attain by employing the usual control systems of the sprayers needle. Moreover by advancing the needle closing another advantage is secured namely the re duction to a minimum of the air quantity necessary for spraying.
In Fig. 2 1 is the cam disc of sprayer controlling by means of catch 2 and through roller 3, the pin 4 the two plates 5 and lever 6. Lever 6 operates sprayers needle 7.
In said Fig. 2 the roller 3 begins'to mount on catch 2 of cam 1, this cam turning then in the sense pointed out by the arrow. The sprayers needle begins then to open.
The position shown in Fig. 2 of roller 3, catch 2 plates 5 exactly corresponds to the position of the piston, at the end of the compression stroke, just at the moment the combustible oil has to be introduced into the combustion chamber. By turning then the cam in the sense pointed out by the arrow the needle opens and remains open, owing to the symmetry of the two planes building the catch 2 of the cam, as long as it runs over the angle a representing the opening angle of the needle.
The inclined surfaces of plates 5 when the piston is at the end of the compression stroke are parallel to the surfaces of catch 2.
The motor being stopped in the position above mentioned, if roller 3 is shifted towards the axle 11 by means of tie rod 8, the lever 9 being, as already said, in the 749,002, and in Italy December 2'4, 1923.
position illustrated in Fig. 2, the surfaces 2 and 5 being parallel no change will take place at the opening moment of the needle.
By shifting the roller into the position 10 the needle during the rotation of the cam will remain open till it has got over the angle Z) this angle having become smaller than angle a. The consequence is that owing to the opening moment of the needle being constant there will be an advanced closing.
By taking roller 3 to the position of axle l-l the opening angle will be reduced to nought, a position showing the needle out of action that is motor stopped.
By taking finally the roller 3 into the position 12 opposed to that illustrated in Fig. 2 there is a repetition of what has been above mentioned but owing to the movement of the camopposed to the sense of rotation indicated by the arrow the reversal of stroke will take place.
Having now particularly described and ascertained my said invention and the manner in which the same is to be performed, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a Diesel engine, a sprayer needle, a pivoted lever for actuating said needle, 21 plate mounted on the lever and having a substantially angular edge, a pin engaging said edge, means for shifting the pin along said edge, and a cam disk having a substantially angular surface, which when the disk is in one position is arranged substantially parallel to the edge of aid plate, and a roller mounted on said pin and bearing on said disk.
2. In a Diesel engine, a sprayer needle, a double-armed lever having one of its ends engaging the needle, a plate arranged at the other end of the lever and having an angular edge, a pin engaging the edge, means for shifting the pin along the edge, a roller mounted on said pin and adapted to be moved with the pin relatively to said angular edge, and a rotatable cam disk having an angular surface which is parallel to said angular edge when the disk is in one posi tion.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name.
ENRICO HOOKE.
