Description

A. SMITH AERIAL co'nusc'mza Filed Feb. 17. 1925 INVENTOR. 6925109827; 112% ATTORNEY ARTHUR slarrrr; or" TAPPA-Nf NEW-' YORK? annmnlcoimnotrnm.
Application filed February This invention relates to wireless transmission and has special reference to a connecter for the lead in wires of such appara-. tus designed to connect said wires to the antennze used at radio stations.
One important object of the invention is to improve the general construction of devices of this character.
A second important object of the invention is to provide an improved device of this kind which will eliminate the use of solder in making such connections.
A third important object of the invention is to provide an improved device of this kind which may have its principal parts economically made from sheet metal stampings.
A fourth important object of the invention is to provide an improved device for the purpose which may be quickly applied or disconnected and which does not require any special preparation of the antenna wire to enable it to be fixed securely thereon without danger of slipping along said wire.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:
Figure 1 is an enlarged side elevation of the invention as applied to the antenna and lead in wires at a radio station.
-Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but with a side plate and the fastening means removed.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1. r
In the embodiment of the invention herein illustrated the connecter is shown as made of two similar side plates suitably held together. Each of these side plates consists of a stamping of metal having good electrical conductivity such as copper or the like and each is of general T-shape. As here shown the member has a stem 10 and arms 11, the arms being connected to the stem in such manner as to provide quadrantial curves 12 having flanges 13. At the junction of the axes of the arms and stem there is provided a bolt opening 14 and the upper margin of the arm portion of the members is curved concentrically to this opening as at 15, this curve merging into straight portions 16 and a flange 17 being provided along these edges or margins. The two sides are similar butone is slightly smaller than the other so that the marginal flanges of the first fit within the corresponding flanges of the second.
In use the lead in wire L is provided, by suitable bending, with an eye'18 and the antenna wire A is arcuately bent as at 19, to run around the eye 18. The two halves are then brought together on opposite sides of these wires with the openings 14; registering so that a bolt 20 may be passed through these openings and the eye and have a nut 21 screwed thereon to hold the parts firmly together with the wires securely clamped by and forming a close and efficient electrical contact with the plates.
It will be seen that, when assembled the device forms a T-shaped structure having tubular arms and a tubular stem, the structure being curved.upwardly above the stem to form a wire grip and consisting of separable halvesand means to hold them releasably together.
It will also be seen that the curved portion 15 prevents slipping of the device along the antenna wire as it receives the correspond-- ingly curved portion of said wire.
'There has thus been provided a simple and eflicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the mate-- rial spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:
1. A device of the kind described consisting of a pair of similar separable T- shaped members provided .with marginal flanges interrupted at the ends of the arms and stem, said members being positioned together with their flanges engaging to form tubular arms and a tubular stem, the portions of said membcrs above the stem being convexly curved to provide space for a correspondingly curved portion of an antenna Wire, and means to releasably hold said 1 members together. H
2. device of the kind described consisting of a pair of similar separable T-shaped members provided With, marginal flanges interrupted at the ends of the arms and stem, said members being positioned together ith their flanges engaging to form tubular arms and a tubular stem, the portions of said members above the stem being convexly curved to provide space for a correspondingly curved portion of an antenna Wire, and means toreleasably hold said members 10 together, said means comprising a headed bolt passing substantially centrally through said members to engage an eye formed on a lead in Wire and a nut on said bolt.
In testimony whereof I ai'fix my signature.
ARTHUR SMITH.
