H. RUETZ FEEDING APPARATUS FOR KILNS Filed Oct. 20, 1925 Patented Nov. 9;, 1925.
HANS RUETZ, OF BADEN, SWITZERLAND.
FEEDING APPARATUS FOR KILNS.
Application filed October 20, 1925. Serial No. 63,799.
This invention is directed to an improved feeding apparatus for kilns designed for feeding fuel in a continuous manner, and in uniform quantities.
The invention has for its object the provision of a feeding apparatus in the use of which fuel can be saved, and the usual obstruction to the fuel'supply avoided, even in the event the fuel should be coarse or moist.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevation partly in sect-ion of the improved feeding apparatus.
Fig. 2 is a plan of the same.
In the drawings, 1 indicates a lower conical discharge funnel atthe end of a vertical fuel reservoir 2. A hollow shaft 3 extends vertically of the reservoir, serving through its hollow formation as a surveying tube for the feeding operation, and being designed to be rotated by any appropriate means (not shown). The lower portion of the hollow shaft is provided with a helical supporting surface 5 which is arranged above the lower edge of the funnel 1 and extends in a substantial contact with the inner surface of such funnel. The lower end of the helical supporting surface is rounded and covered by the upper portion of such surface for about 90. The pitch of the helical surface increases toward its lower end so that an increased flow of the fuel is obtained to there by prevent Jamming.
In operation the reservoir which is filled or partly filled with fuel, and the shaft 3 is rotated, the rotation being in the direction of the arrow I in Fig. 2, which driving direction itwill be noted, is contrary to the slope of the helical surface. The bottom portion of the fuel is gradually picked up by this helical surface and carried around the same and discharged into the kiln from the lower end 5 of such surface. portions of the fuel taken from the bottom of the reservoir above the helical surface are uniformly and continuously separated in the rotation of the helical surface, and by the latter delivered to the kiln, the fuel feeding will result in a uniform charging of the kiln without regard to the character of the fuel, assuming such is of a nature to permit cooperation with the helical surface.
Having now fully described my said in- As the my hand.
vention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
less width than the upper portion of the surface and being covered by the upper portion of the surface and means to rotate the said shaft and supporting surface opposite to the driving direction of the helix.
2. A. feeding apparatus for kilns comprising a stationary vertical, open ended reservoir for the fuel to be fed tothe kiln, a rotatable sh-aftpassing through the centre of the said reservoir and a helical supporting surface carriedby the bottom portion of the said shaft, terminating over the opening of the said reservoir and reaching the inner wall of the said reservoir, the lower end of the said supporting surface being materially reduced in width and being covered by the upper end of this surface and means to rotate the said shaft and supporting surface opposite to the driving direction of the helix and the pitch of the helical surface increas ing towards its lower end. I
8. A feeding apparatus for kilns comprising a stationary, vertical, open ended reservoir for the fuel to be fed to the kiln, a rotatable hollow shaft serving as surveying tube and passingthrough the centre of the said reservoir and a helical supporting surface carried by the bottom portion of the said shaft, terminating above the opening of the said reservoir and reaching the inner wall of the said reservoir, said supporting surface being at a gradually increasing angle to the horizontal from the upper end to the lower end, the lower end of the said supporting surface being covered by the 7 upper end of this surface and means to rotate the said shaft and supporting surface in a direction opposite to the driving direction of the helix.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set Hans RUETZ.
