This invention relates to improvements in wrist watch constructions.

An object of the invention is to provide a wrist watch having on its wrist encircling member a resilient link ldevice ofimproved construction permitting the wrist encircling member to accommodate itself'to the wrist.

Another object of the invention isvto provide an improved fastener construction by which an end of theV wrist encircling member may be attached to the bail of a wrist watch. A further object of the invention 1s to provide a construction in which the fastener and the resilient link are combined upon the same body, permitting chains, ribbons, straps and other devices to be employed as wrist Vencircling members.

After it has been positioned upon the bail, theguard 28 can be pressed toward the hook; and because of the beveled natureiof the arms34,as shown in Fig. 5, the'pintlesA willl slide inwardly against the action of the spring 31 and when the guard 28 engages the hook, as shown in Fig, 4;, these angular arms 34 will enter the apertures 35, thus lockingthe guard in engage ment with the hook 2T, and preventing-the bail from slipping' out of thehoolc. pintles are merely pressedtoward'each other, causingthe arms Sel to be withdrawn from' within the apertures' 55, and'in this manner the guard 28 can be swung into the open' position as shown in Fig. 7, ,and the pint-les allowedvto be expanded so that the arms will engage upon the edges of the side walls 13 and 14.; thus locking the guard in its open position.

From the above described construction itl willbe readily appreciatedthatv an improved resilient link and' fastener is providedV for wrist watch encircling members which is neat and attractive in appearance and which has many advantages. It will beV noted that whenthe frontr wall 19 is withdrawn from behind the front Vwall 12, it presents a sub stantially continuous appearance.

It will be understood that various changes in the detail of construction may be made without departing` from the spirit or scope of the invention as deined by the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A fastener adapted to connect a watch to a wrist band, said fastener comprising a part having a front wall, side walls, back walls extending toward each other from the side walls but having their adjacent edges disposed in spaced relation and intermediate walls extending from the adjacent edges of the back walls toward the front wall, and a second part havingA a front wall slid'able against the back surface of the front wall of the first part, said second part havinga back wall 4and end walls connecting the baci;v

A' Vfastener adapted to'conn'ect' a watch to a wrist band, said fastener comprising a part 4having a front4 wall, side walls, back walls extending` toward each other from the side walls but having theiiI adjacent edges disposed in spaced relation and interinediate walls extending from the adjacent edges of the back walls toward the front Wall, and a second part having a front wall slidable against the back surf-ace of the front wall of the first part, said second part having a back wall and end walls connecting the back wall to the front Wall, a coil spring disposed between the end walls, and a pin passing through the side Walls and through the intermediate walls, said pin being positioned between one end of the spring and one of the end Walls thus providing a resilient link, the back walls being extended and joined beyond the side Walls and being curved to form a hook engageable upon the bail.

A fastener adapted to connect a watch to a wrist band, said fastener comprising a part having a front wall, side walls, back walls extending toward each other from the side walls but having their adjacent edges disposed in spaced relation and intermediate walls extending from the adjacent edges of the back walls toward the front wall, and a second part having a front wall slidable against the back surface of the front wall of the first part, said second part having a back wall and end walls connecting the back wall to the front wall, a. coil spring disposed between the end walls, a pin passing through the side walls and through the intermediate walls, said pin being positioned between onev end of the spring and one of the end walls thus providing a resilient link, the back walls being extended and joined beyond the side walls and being curved to form a hook engageable upon the bail, and a guard pivoted between the side walls engageable upon the hook.

A fastener adapted to connect a watch to a wrist band, said fastener comprising a part having a front wall, side walls, back walls extending towaid each other from the side walls but having their adjacent edges disposed in spaced relation'and intermediate walls extending from the adjacentjedges of the back walls. toward the front wall, and a second part having a front wall slidable against the back surface of the front wall of the fi 1st part, said second part having a ba k wall and end walls connecting the back wall to the front wall, a coil spring disposed. between the end walls, a pin passing through the side wallsand through the intermediate walls, said pin being positioned between one end of the spring and one of the end walls thus providing a resilient link, the back walls being extended and joined beyond the side walls and being curved to form a hook engageable upon the bail, a guard pivoted between the side walls engageable upon the hook, and means for maintaining the guard in engagement with the hook.

A fastener adapted to connect `a watch to a wrist band, said fastener' comprising a j part having a front wall, side walls, back walls extending toward each other from the side walls. but having their adjacent edges disposed in spaced relation and intermediate to the front wall, a coilspring disposed between the end walls, a pin passing through the sidewalls and through the intermediate walls, said pin being positioned between one end of the spring and one of the end walls thus providing a resilient link, the back walls being extended and joined beyond the side walls and being curved to forin a hook engageable upon the bail, a guard having one end positioned between the side walls, means foriniiig'a tubular housing upon the mentioned end of the guard, a coil spring disposed in said housing, a pintle urged by the spring into a position extending through a side Wall so as to pivotally connect the guard to the side wall, and means for pivotally connecting the guard to the other side wall, said pintle carrying an angular arm slidable in a slot in said housing, said arm being arranged to engage upon an edge of its adjacent side wall to keep the guard disengaged froin said hook, said- `arm also be ing receivable in an aperture in its adjacent side wall to keep the guard inengageinent with the hook.

8. A fastener adapted to connect a watch to a wrist band, said fastener comprising a member having front, back and side walls, the back wall being extended beyond the side walls and being bent to provide a hook, a guard having one end disposed between the -side Walls, means providing a tubular housing' upon the mentioned end of the guard, a coil spring disposed within said housing, a

pintle, slidable within the housing' and urged into a position extending through a side wall by the spring so as to pivtally connect the guard to the side wall, and means for pivotallv connecting the guard to the other side wall, said pintle carrying an angular arm which is slidable in a slot in said housing and which is engageable upon the edge of the firstinentioned side wall to hold the guard disengaged from said hook, said angular arm being adapted to enteran aperture in the side wall to lock the guard in engagement with said hook.
