This invention relates to an improved hand duplicator or stamp of the type in which a stencil on which reading matter of any kind is cut by a stylus or on a typewriting machine, is used in conjunction with. an inking device and means for positioning and holding the various parts in an eflicient manner.
This application is refiled for my abandoned application, Serial No. 9,909, filed February 18th, 1925.
I am familiar with the various patents that have been issued on devices of this nature and also with the constructions that have been marketed, and have endeavored in my new structure to overcome the objections and defects hitherto encountered and produce an article that is simple and eco nonncal in constructlon, easy to assemble and handle, cleanly and not apt to leak or drip its ink, and capable of locking the stencil sheet and ink pad tightly in position to prevent creeping thereof in use, and the consequent smearing and smudging of the work.
I have also been able in my device, to increase the area of the actual printing surface and at the same time reduce the weight of the parts, without enlarging the outside measurements defining the space occupied by the structure as a whole.
I have also devised a new form of lid or top cover which effectively acts as a closure and locking member to hold in close immovable engagement the various components after they have been assembled and are ready for use.
Other advantages and a detailed description of the foregoing are set forth in the following specification and illustrated in the drawings in which Fig. 1 is a side view of the device.

The diaphragm A .is provided with a curved perforated bottom wall 10, across which the ink pad C and the stencil sheet D are positioned side walls 11-11, end walls 13-13, and inturned rectangular flanges 14-14 on the upper edges of the end walls 13-13, the perforations in the bottom wall being indicated by the reference numeral 12.
To position and securely hold the ink pad C and the stencil sheet D on the diaphragm A, two rows of bosses 27 27 and 28-28 are arranged on the upper exterior portions of the side walls 11-11, the bosses 27 engaging with the slots 39-39 in the re-inforcing strips 38-38 at either end of the ink pad C, and the bosses 28engaging with the slots 10-10 in the said reinforcing strip and also with the slots 13-43 in the reinforcing strip 12 on the stencil sheet I), the opposite end 11 of the said sheet being left free so that it can be rolled onto the diaphragm to SGOfle a smooth engagement with the ink )ac.
1 To hold the lock the said pad and stencil sheet on the bosses 27 and 28 after they are positioned thereon, pad clamps 15-15 hinged at 17-17 to the portion 23 of one of the end walls 13, and stencil clamps 16-16 hinged in a like manner at 18-18 are provided. The pad clamps 15 are L shaped with horizontal top walls and vertical side walls having slots 29-29 for engagement with the bosses 27-27 after the ink pad 0 has been seated thereon by engagement with the slots 39. At their free ends the hinged pad clamps 15 are bent at right angles to form spring, catches 24-24 with finger grips 19-19, having apertures 21-21 to engage with lugs 26-26 projecting from clamps 1616 are indicated at 25-25, the finger gri-ps at 2020, and the apertures for the lugs .2626 at 2222.
The horizontal top walls of the pad clamps 15 --l5. extend inwardly to form an ink tight closure with the upper edges of the ink pad C which extend above the line of the bosses 2727, the longitudinal edges of the lid B and the longitudinal upper edges of the side walls. llll 01" the diaphragm A.
The horizontal top flanges of the stencil clamps 1Gl(3 extend outwardly to form a guide or register against which the material on which the printing is to be done may be positioned to secure perfect alignment with what is cut on the stencil sheet.

The closure lid B with a handle 31 secured at 3d, consists of an arch spring member constructed of a suitable metal and formed. so that when the lower edges of the arch are positioned on the flanges l4l-1d of the end walls l3'-l3 ofthe diaphragm a slight downward pressure will serve to flatten the arch and move the said lower edges laterally along the flanges 141-14 and under the inturned flanges constituting the upper hori zontal walls of the pad clamps l5l5,. where the whole lid member is locked against movement of any kind by the engagement of the lugs in the apertures in the spring latches on the member 23 oi the diaphragm A. i
To further provide against any leakage or dripping of ink from the interior oi the dia phragm, gaskets or sealing strips oi felt or a similar material are located on the under side of the ends of the lid B whereby when the said lid is flattened and locked in position as shown in Fig. 3, closure results.

Asis obvious, I have obtained in the device disclosed inthe foregoing description a structure that islight in weight, compact in size, attractive in appearance and easy of operation.
I do not desire tolimit myself strictly to the preferred embodiment disclosed herein as there are a number of other ways in which the construction could be used without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
I claim 1. In a duplicator the combination of the following elements; a diaphragm; an ink pad"; a stencil sheet; pad clan'iping' members stencil clamping members; and a spring lid adapted to lock together the said diaphragm, ink pad, and, pad clamping members.
2. In a duplicator the combination of the following elements; a perforated diaphragm provided on its side walls with a plurality of bosses and on the upper surfaces of its end walls with inturned rectangular flanges; an ink pad; a stencil sheet; pad clamping members; stencil clamping members; and a spring lid adapted to lock together the said diaphragm, ink pad, and pad clamping members.
3. In a duplicator the combination of the following elements; a diaphragm; an ink pad provided at either end with reinforcing members having a plurality of slots therein; a stencil sheet; pad clamping members; stencil clamping members; and a spring lid adapted to lock together the said diaphragm, ink pad, and pad clamping member 4.. In a duplicator the combination of the following elements; a diaphragm; an ink pad; a stencil sheet having one free end and one end provided with a reinforcing member having a plurality of slots therein; pad clam 'iing members; stencil clamping members; and a spring lid adapted to lock together the said diaphragm, ink pad, and pad clamping members.

In a duplicator the combination of the following elements; a diaphragm provided on its side walls with a plurality of bosses; an ink pad; a stencil sheet; pad and stencil clamping members hingedly mounted on the said diaphragm and provided with slots adapted to engage with the bosses on the side walls of the diaphragm; and a spring lid adapted to lock together the said diaphragm, ink pad, and pad clamping memhere.
6. In a duplicator the combination of the following elements; a diaphragm; an ink pad; a stencil sheet; means adapted to clamp the said ink pad on the diaphragm; and means independent of the said pad clamps for clamping the stencil sheet on the said diaphragm; and a spring lid adapted to lock together the said diaphragm ink pad, and pad clamping members.
7. in a duplicator the combination of the following elements; a perforated diaphragm provided on its side walls with a plurality of bosses and on its end walls with inwardly extending rectangular flanges; an ink pad comprising a body member of absorbent material having reinforcements at either end provided with a plurality of slots adapted to engage with the bosses on the diaphragm'; a stencil sheet comprising a body member having one free end and a reinforced opposite end provided with a plurality of slots adapted to engage with the bosses on the diaphragm; ink pad clamping members hingedly mounted at one end on one end wall of the said diaphragm and adapted to be detachably locked at their opposite ends upon the other end wall of the said diaphragm and provided with slots adapted to engage with the bosses on the side walls of the diaphragm; stencil clamping members hingedly mounted at one end on one end wall of the said diaphragm and adapted to be detachably locked at their opposite ends upon the other end wall of the said diaphragm and provided with slots adapted to engage with the bosses on the side walls of the diaphragm; and a closure member comprising an arched spring lid adapted to be positioned above and upon the said diaphragm and to lock together the saiddiaphragm, ink pad, and pad clamping members.
