FRANCIS W. GIBSON, OF WEST ROXBURY, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE D. BEACH COMPANY, OF COSHOCTON, OHIO, CORPORATION OF OHIO.
DISPLAY CONTAINER FOR BREAD AND THE LIKE.
Application filedAugust 29, 1923.
This invention relates to display stands, and particularly to a stand or rack adapted to be placed upon a counter or other support and from which such articles. as loaves of bread, for example, may be conveniently dispensed.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of the character indicated which will permit convenient display and ready access to the articles; will be capable of convenient shipment in compact form and subsequent readyv assembly; and will provide a maximum display surface for advertising matter descriptive of the goods.
This object is secured in the display stand of the present invention. The construction and manner of assembling my display stand is described and illustrated in the accompanying specification and drawings and the characteristic features of novelty are particularly pointed out in the appended claims. Throughout the specification and claims like reference characters are correspondingly employed and in the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a display stand in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a plan view.
Fig. 4 is a transverse section and indicating in dotted lines the matter of bending down one of the advertising display panels.
Fig. 5 is a development of one of the end upright blanks of the stand, and
Fig. 6 is a developmentof one of theshelf forming blanks.
My display stand consists of a pair of end uprights 1 which have the shape best shown inFigs. 2 and 5, and are each preferably formed from a blank of sheet material. The lower edge of each blank isinturned to provide a horizontal supporting foot 2. Above the foot 2 the opposite edges of the blank are bent back upon themselves as indicated at 3 to provide smooth, finished edges. Beyond the flanges 3 the edges of the blank are bent inwardly at substantially right angles to provide attaching flanges 4 towhich the bottom. and rear members 5 and 6, respectively, of the shelf are bolted or otherwise secured as indicated at 7. Beyond the attaching flanges 4 the edges of the blank are'turned back upon themselves as indicated at 8 to provide smooth finished edges.
Serial No. 660,036.
The shelf or article supporting member of the stand consists of the pair of shelf sections 5 and 6 which are disposed at substantially right angles to each otherto define with the end uprights a trough-like con taining space. Each shelf section is preferably formed' from a blank of sheet material having portions of its end edges bent down wardly at substantially right angles to provide attaching flanges 9, Figs. 4 and 6, which are bolted to the end'uprights l as indicated at 10; The inner edges of the- shelf blanks 5 and 6, considering said blanks as they appear in Fig. 4, are bent downwardly as in dicated at 11, Figs. 4 and 6, to provide continuous bearing edges which rest upon the flanges 2 of the end uprights.
Preferably the shelf sections are so mounted upon the end uprights as to leave a space between their opposing edges 11 as indicated at 12, Fig.4, and said space permits any crumbs or the like which may lodge upon the shelf to be swept therethrough.
One or both of the shelf blanks may be longitudinally weakened in its upper area. as indicated by the scored line 13 in Fig. 6, so that the blank may be bent over upon itself to provide a down turned panel 14, the bounding edges ofwhich are preferably inturned as indicated at 15 to provide a finished edge. The panels 14 may be disposed in any desired angular relation to their shelf sections, whereby to most effectively display advertising matter descriptive of the goods being vended, as indicated in dotted lines, Fig. 4.
WVhen the stand is knocked down for shipment as a flat compact package, the panels 14 are preferably bentto lie in the plane of the shelf sections themselves. 7
In assembling my stand the shelf sections are bolted to the end uprights by means of the respective attaching flanges 4 and 9 and the bolts 7 and 10 whereby to rigidly connect the uprights and the advertising dis play panels 14 bent downwardly to the desired angle. When collapsed for shipment, the shelf sections 5 and 6 and the upright sections 1 fit closely upon one another.
Various modifications in the form and construction of my device may obviously be re sorted to without depar'tingfrom the spirit of my invention if within the limits of the appended claims.
spaced end uprights having inturned flanges at their lower edges providing supporting.
feet, and having inturned attaching flanges disposed above and at an angle to said feet, and a shelf disposed between and rigidly connecting said uprights and consisting of a pair of shelf members disposed at substantially right angles to each other and each fastened adjacent one longitudinal edge to said attaching fiang s of the uprights, and said shelf sections having down turned attaching flanges at their ends adapted to be fastened to said upright-s adjacent said sup- 1 ortin feet thereof the inner ed es of said CD 7 b inenibers being bent downwardly to rest upon said supporting feet of the uprights and being spaced from each other to provide a discharge opening.
2. A display stand comprising a pair of spaced end uprights having inturned flanges at their lower edges providing supporting feet, and having inturned attaching ianges disposed above and at an angle to said feet, and a shelf disposed between and rigidly connecting said uprights and consisting of a pair of shelf rneinbers disposed at substanmembers being bent downwardly to rest upon said supporting feet of the uprights and being spaced from each other to provide a discharge opening, and dovvnturned panels bent from the outer edges of said shelfsections and constituting areas for the display .of advertising matter.
A display stand comprising a pair of spaced end; uprights, a pair of shelf inein'bers.
disposed at substantially right angles to each other between said uprights, and each consisting of an inclined portion terminating at e ther end in a down-turned portion, said down-turned portions at the inner edges of the shelf members being spaced apart. to define with each other a discharge opening and said? down-turned portions at the outer edges of said shelf ineinbers constituting exposed areas for the display of advertising.
In testimony whereof I my signature.
FRANCIS VJ. GIBSON.
