My invention relates to control systems and apparatus and it has particular relation to controllers for governing remotely-controlled switches.
One object of my invention is to provide a device for opening a circuit that governs ak line switch, upon a slight reverse movement of a controller drum. ,A
Another object of my invention is to provide a switching device which shall be compact and economical in construction and positive and reliable in operation.
Briefi'y speaking, `my invention consists in providing two alined shafts with interlocking members, movably mounting a collar on one of the members to actuate a switching device and mounting a cam mechanism on the other interlocking member to actuate the collar in a direction parallel to the aXis of the shafts.
For a better understanding of my invention, reference may be made to the accompanying drawingsu u A t A Figure l oi which 1s a view, partly 1n side elevation and partly in section, of a switchingy device mounted upon the top of a controller for governing a line switch, which is situated at some relatively remote point vfrom the controller, in accordance with a Familiar practice;

Figs. 3 and 4 are views, in plan and side elevation, respectively, of the cam mechanism constituting a portion of the switching device that is illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2; and
Fig. 5 is a diagrammatic view of a control system in which a line switch attachment constructed in accordance with my invention is employed.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, a controller 1, having a shaft 2, on which is mounted a plurality of cam members 3 for governing a pluralit of switches 3, etc. f (shown also-in Fig. 5), as-a switchingL device 4 constructed in accordance with my invention, mounted on top of the controller proper. Thel switching device 4 comprises a shaft 5, in alinementwith the shaft 2 and adapted to be rotated by means of the usual handle, which has not been illustrated. ,Y v f f An interlocking member olrvdog rGis se- 1922. cured to the shaft 5 by means of a pin 6a. The interlocking member 6 is adapted to engage a corresponding interlocking member or dog 7, which is rigidly secured to the shaft 2. A plurality of rollers 8 are rotatably mounted upon the interlocking member 6 by means of tap bolts 9. Therollers 8 are adapted to engage the adjacent contact surfaces of a collar 11 which is rotatably mounted upon the interlocking member 6.
The Vcollar l1 is maintained in fixed relation tothe interlocking member 7 by means of projections 12, constituting a portion thereof. The collar 11 is provided with a plurality of raised portions or iianges 13 and inclined surfaces 14, along which the rollers 8 are adapted to pass. The collar 11 isV biased to its upper position, which is that illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, ot' the drawings, by means of a resilient member or spring 15.
Willen the interlocking member 6 is turned in a clockwise direction, the rollers 8 will roll up the inclined vsurfaces 14 onto the Hanges 13 of the collar 11, thereby forcing the collar member 11 downwardly or towards the interlocking member 7. The downward movement of the collar 11 actuates a switching member 16, which is secured to a pivotally mounted yoke member 17. The yoke member 17 has its ends pivotaly mounted upon a plurality of alined bolts 18, which are secured to the cover member 19 of the switching device 4. Theicover member 19 is attached to the controller 1 by a plurality of tap bolts 20.
The yoke member 17 is provided with a roller 21, which rides against the under surface of the collar member 11. The yoke member 17 is biased to its upper position by means of a plurality of springs 22, which are mounted on either side of the movable switch member 16. The movable switch member 16 is provided with a contact segment 23 whch is adapted to engage a plurality of stationary control fingers 24 to establish a circuit which will be hereinafter more fully described. A second circuit is established within the switching device 4 upon the engagement of a stationary control inger 26 with a movable arcuate contact segment 25 which is secured to the interlocking member 7.'

In a controller, the combination with a plurality of relatively rotatable shafts, of a plurality of interlocking members mounted on said shafts, a casing for said members, a collar mounted upon one of said interlocking members, resilient means for biasing said collar to a predetermined position, means comprising a roller member on one of said interlocking members for actuating said collar, a yoke member having a roller adapted to be actuated by said collar, and a switching device governed by said yoke member, the ends of the yoke member being pivotally mounted in said casing at points on the opposite side of the yoke-member roller from said switching device.
