Be it known that wo, GEORGE RAYMONI) and ALBERT RAYMOND, of Waupnn, in tl1e county of Fond du Lae and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvement-s in \?Vind-Wheels of whioh oho following is a specifieation: 4
Onninvention relates to tl1at dass 0f automatic wheels which have tw0 sets or series of wings, one around or outside 0f the other, arr'anged to tip over endwise in a plane parallel With the axis; and the improvements consist in a novel manner of oonneoting the tw0 series of wings Wihh eacl1 other and with tl1e controlling meehanism, and in a peculiar arrangement of an adjustable weight oontrolling the movement 0f the wings, anal thereloy tl1e speed of oho wheel.
Figure 1 represents an edge view 0f a pair of the wings 01' sails of a wheel provided. with our improvements, and Fig. 2 a face view 0f the same.
The wheel consists, as usual, of a shaft, A, provided With a series 0f radial arrns, B, which are connected by t-w0 transverse rods, (l, on which are monnted the sails 0r wings D, in such manner that when the wheel is in .motion the centrifugal force Will tend to tip them over edgewise to the wind.
Wl1ile the drawing represents only one pair of tl1e radial arms, ancl the two wings between them, it will, of oourse, be understood that the wheel is composed of a series of like arms anal wings snrrounding tl1e shaft.
Throngh the middle of eaoh wing wo secure rigidly a bar, a, extending 01113 in front and in rear of the wing, and between tho inner-ends 0f the arms B we pivot a corresponding bar, E, having an arm, c, as shown. Tl1e inner ends 0f the three bars a a E are conneeted by a radial wlre 01 rod, d, and their outer ends connected in like manner by a rod, e. On the straft there 1's mounted a sliding eollar, G, conneoted by a bar, f, with the arm 0 0f bar E, as shown.
Eaol1 pair of wings in filme wheel is arranged in oho above manner, and all connected with bl1e single collar G.
As tl1e inner and outer wings are conneoted in the above manner, and all oonneeted 150 t-he collar, it Will be seen that all the wings in the wheel must move together, and to the san1e extent, and tha-t they aro all controlled by t-be collar, whioh will be conneeted, as usnal, With a weight 130 resist the tipping movement of the wings, and t0 bring them back to their normal positions.
By extending the bars a ontward, both in front and rear, and conneoting tl1em als botl1 ends, as shown, we are enabled t0 hold the wings uncler perfect control, to make the parts very ligl1t and cheap, ancl to draw the parts all np tight ancl snug in order to prevent thexn from rattling.
On tl1e front wire o1 rocl d wo mount an adjustable weight, I, the centrifugal force of whioh, when 1she wheel is in motion, assists in tipping the Wings baokward.
By moving this weigh on the wire to or from the center of the wheel, it may be caused to travel With more 01 lass velocity in proportion to the speed of Ehe wheel, and thus its centrifugal force varied, so that it Will tip the wings when the speed reaches the limit; fixed upon.
Thus, it Will be seen the speed 0f tl1e wheel may be limited With great nicety by simply changing the position of the weight, whieh may be made of any dosired form, and secured in any suitable manner.

What wo claim as our invention is l. The combination ot the inner anal onter wings D, conneoted by two wires or rods, d and e, one in front and oho oher in rear of the wings, substantially as shown anal desoribed.
