HOSE REEL.
Application filed September This invention relates toan improved means for supporting and conceal ng from view a reel adapted to have a hose wound.
thereon.
I-Ieretofore reels have been provided on which a garden hose may be Wound but these reels are portable and it is necessary after winding the. hose on the reel to carry the reel into a garage or other outbuilding in order to store the same. The reel is then not in position for use when it is desired to use the same. 7 As a result of these inconveniences, the hose is frequently left attached to the water spigot and as a result, the yard or lawn is untidy and the water remains in the hose so that the same will disintegrate very rapidly.
The object of this invention is to provide a built-in receptacle in the part of the foundation of the 'houseab'ove the ground, which receptacle is provided with a lid or closure on which the reel is mounted. The hose may be wound on the reel and when the lid is raised, so as to close the receptacle, the reel carrying the hose is pushed into the receptacle where it remains unseen. 'By such a means the appearance of the house and premises is much improved.
' Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the hose may be secured to the reel and to provide means whereby the closure or lid may be held in its closed position. With these and other objects in View, we have shown on the drawings the preferred construction of the invention but it is to be understood that many changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is an .elevational view of a house or other building provided with a built-in receptacle adapted, to house a reel.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view showing the outside of the receptacle and the means whereby the closure therefor is held in locked position.
Fig. 3 is a perspective elevational view showing the lid in its lowered position with a hose on the reel ready to be unwound therefrom or for the lid to be raised and the receptacle closed and Fig. i is a fragmental perspective view of the reel showing the means to attach one end of the hose thereto.
Referring more particularly to the draw- .21, 1925. Serial no. 57,577.
ings we have indicated a house 1 having a receptacle 2 built into the foundation there of, the receptacle preferably positioned'fin the part ofthe foundation above the surface and belowthe first floor of the'house. The receptacle 2 consists of any box-like structure andis preferably made of cast iron or other suitable material with an outside flange 3 to give a finished.appearancethereto and to support hinges 4; on the lower partthereof which hinges support a lid or clos ure 5. A catch 6 ispivoted to the flange 3 which catch is adapted to engage and hold the closure 5 when thereceptacleis closed thereby as shown in Fig. 2.
The lid or closure 5 is provided with 'upstanding arms 7, each'of' which, is provided with a slot 8, in the upper portion thereof to receive a journal 9 of a're'el lO, which reel isprovided with disks 11 and radially extending arms 12whereby the reel may "be rotated.
One of the disks 11 is provided with a spring clip 15 to receive the end of the hose which is connected with a spigot 13 when the hose is in use.
When it is desired to use the hose, the catch 6 is raised so that the closure 5 may be lowered into the position shown in Fig. 3. The hose 14. may now be unwound from the reel by pulling on the hose, the journals 9 rotating in the bottom of the slots 8. When the hose is completely unwound the end remote from the nozzle is pulled inwardly so that the spring clip 15 releases the same,
whereupon it may be attached to the;
cured to the spigot 13 is detached therefrom and is inserted in the spring clip 15. The arms 12 may now be rotated so that the hose is wound on the reel and as it is wound it is elevated so that the water in the hose will run out of the same through the nozzle. When the hose has been completely wound on the reel, the closure 5 is raised and is held in closed position by means of the catch 6.
Having now disclosed our invention in its preferred form of construction, we claim:
1. In combination with a receptacle adapted to be inserted in the wall of a building, a hose reel associated "therewith, and means whereby said reel is supported within the receptacle within the wall when the re ceptacle is closed.
After the hose has been used the end se- 4.- In comloination with a receptacle adapted to be inserted in the wall of a building, a hose reel associated therewith, means whereby said reel is supportedwithin the receptaclewithin the wall when the receptacle is closed, and means carried by said reel whereby one end of a hose may be secured thereto. I
5. In combination with a receptacle adapted to be inserted in the wall of a building, an opening therein, a box adapted to be inserted within said opening, a closure for said box, a reel and means carried by said closure to support the said reel, said receptacle housing said reel when the closure is shut.
6; In combination with a receptacle adapted to be inserted in the wall of a building, an opening therein, a box within said opening, a closure for said box, a reel and arms carried by said closure adapted to support said reel, said receptacle housing said reel when the closure is shut.
7. In combination with a receptacle adapted to be inserted in thewall of a building, an opening therein, a box inserted withinsaid opening, a closure for said box, means to keep said closure in closed position when the closure is fully raised, a reel and means carried by said closure to support said reel, saidreceptacle housing said reel when the closure is shut.
8. In combination with a receptacle adapted to be inserted in the wall of a building having an opening therein, a closure pivoted to said receptacle, arms carried by said closure provided with bearings in the ends thereof remote from said closure, and a reel rotatably mounted in said bearings, said receptacle housing said reel when the closure is shut. I
In testimony whereof we afiiX our signatures.
