IMPROVEMENT IN SODA-WATER DRAFT APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,915, dated February 16, 1875; application filed December 30, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM GEE, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented an Improved Soda-l/VaterDraft Apparatus; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
My invention consists in a novel construction and arrangement of parts, whereby one fountain and cooler is connected with a number of what are known as combined sodawater and sirup cocks-that is to say, cocks which draw at one operation both soda-water and sirup, whereby soda-water siruped with any one of various kinds of sirups from different sirup-vessels may be drawn from a single fountain by the operation of a single cook. The invention consists, further, in means for shutting oft the soda-water from the combined soda-water and sirup cocks, but retaining its connection with a soda-water cock which is used in the same apparatus for drawing plain soda-water, whereby provision is made for drawing soda and sirup separately, in the event of the combined soda and sirup apparatus being out of order.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a top view of my improved apparatus. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section taken in the line 00 x of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section taken in the line y y of Fig. l.
A is the ice-chamber or cooler ofa soda-water draft-apparatus,whichisrepresented constructed with an offset, A, which forms an ice-water chamber for containing and cooling the draftcocks, as described in my patent of December 10, 1872, No. 133,848, but which may be of an other suitable construction. 0 is the pipe from the soda-water fountain, arranged in a coil within the cooler, in the usual manner, and connected with an ordinary cock, 1), which may be termed the cut-01f, from which a pipe, E, extends along the interior of the cooler, and is furnished with a number of branch pipes, f, corresponding with the number of sirup-vessels B in the apparatus. These branch pipes fconnect each with one of the series of combined soda-water and sirup cocks G, attached to the said sirup-vessels. These cocks G may be of the kind forming the subject of my patent of April 22, 1873, No. 138,143, or of any other suitable construction that will provide for the drawing of soda water and sirup together. The pipe 0 is also furnished with a separate branch, H, which is connected with it between the cut-off cock D and the coil, the said branch being furnished with a soda draft-cock, J, for drawing plain sodawater.
When the apparatus is in working order the cut-off cock 1) remains open, and soda-water siruped with any one of the various sirups contained in the sirup-vessels B can be drawn by the single operation of opening the combined soda-water and sirup cock Gr connected with that vessel, while plain soda can be drawn from the cock J.
In case of the soda-connection of any of the combined soda-water and sirup cocks Gr being out of repair, or in case othaving to make new connections or charges, the cut-off cock D may be closed, to shut olf all the said cocks G from the soda-fountain; but this does not prevent the dispensing of siruped soda-water by the two operations of drawing thesirup from one of the cooks G, and the soda-water from the plain-soda cock J.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination of a single soda-water draft-pipe, two or more sirup-reservoirs, a corresponding number ofcombined soda-water and sirup cocks, and a corresponding number of branch pipes leading from the said draftpipe to the said cocks, substantially as herein described, whereby soda-water siruped with either one ofvarious sirups may be drawn from one fountain without a separate siruping operation.
2. The arrangement of the cut-off valve or cook, the combined soda water and sirup cocks, and the plain-soda draft-cock, and the pipe leading from the fountain, whereby soda and sirup may be drawn separately when necessary, substantially as shown and described.
