PORTABLE LAMP. I Application filed December 1, 1825. Serial Rb. 79,546.
This invention relates to a portable lamp, screwed into the rear end of the extension and is particularly concerned with means '15, and coacting therewith toclamp the infor supporting the lamp upon any fiat wall termediate portion of a vacuum cup 17. surface without the necessity for usin nails, This vacuum cup may be of conventional 6 screws or other forms of securing devices. construction, including the usual outwardly- More specifically the lamp support is in presentedflang'e 18 at its mouth. the nature of a suction cup carrying the The manner of attaching such a cup to a lam and adapted to be attached to a wallwall is well understood; it being merely a in t e usual manner. necessarfy to compress the cup and expel 66 10 A further feature of the invention is the most 0 the air therefrom. Whereu on,
provision of a lamp support in which sucwhen the cup is released, the diiferentia air ion cups and magnetic feet are used in pressures on the inside and outside thereof combination, and either the magnetic means will retain the flange 18 snugly against the or the vacuum means may be optionally wall 10. The size of the vacuum cu will 70 used for supporting the lamp. By virtue depend altogether upon the load wln'c it is of this com ination, the lamp may be su to carry, and for supporting an ordinary ported upon any ordinary fiat surface by t e .lamp bulb and socket, such as is shown in vacuum cup means, and upon any metallic Fig.1, the cup need not be of cumbersome surface by the magneticmeans. size. l
20 Objects of the invention are to provide a In Fig. 2 I have illustrated a modification ortablelamp of this character which will wherein the lamp bulb 12 is mounted in a e of simple, practical construction, which socket 11, the latterbeing connected by an will be rugged, durable and eflicient in use, iron post 20-to a cross bar 21. The inview, the invention consistsin certain novel termediate portions of suction cups l7 are features ofconstruction and combinations clamped between the collars 24% and the and arrangements of arts, as will be more under face of the cross bar 21. Threaded 8. so fully hereinafter set orth and pointed out sleeves 25 engaged with the screws 22 carry in the claims. The invention may be more magnetic discs or feet 26 adapted to be refully understood from the following 'detracted within the vacuum cups as in Fig. scription in connection with the accompany- "2, or to be projected beyond the plane ofin drawings, whereinp the cup flanges l8 as shown in, Fig. 4. 9o Tig. 1 is a view in side elevation showing The lead wire 14 for the lam 12 is a lamp embodying the invention supported connected to amagnetizing coil 2 which in operative position, the suction cup being encircles either the post 20 or if desired, the broken away and in section for clearness. bar 21. Various changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described, without departing from the invention. Hence I do not wish to limit myself to the details set forth, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim- 1. A portable lamp including a lamp socket, a supporting rame for the socket, suction cups at the ends of the frame, magnetic wall engaging means at the ends of the frame, said suction cups and magnetic means being telescopically adjustable relative to each other, whereby either the suction cups or the magnetic means may be used for supporting the lamp.
2. A portable lamp including a lamp socket, a U-shaped frame, to the intermediate portion of which the socket is secured,
magnetic feet adjustable on the legs of the frame, suction cups encircling the legs of the .frame, and means for establishing a magnetic circuit through the frame.
3. A portable lamp including a lamp socket, a U- haped frame, to the intermediate portion of which the socket is secured, magnetic feet adjustable on the legs of the frame, suction cups encircling the legs of the frame, means for establishing a magnetic circuit through the frame, said magnetic feet being formed with sleeve portions screw-threadedly adjustable on the legs, whereby the feet may be projected beyond the plane of the suction cups, or may be retracted into the suction cups.
4. A portable lamp structure including a U-shaped frame, means for mounting a lamp on said frame, magnetic feet adjustable on the legs of the frame, suction cups encircling the feet, and Within which the feet are adapted to be retracted, and an energizing coil for establishing a magnetic circuit through the frame.
