An object of the present invention is to provide aconnection between the adjacent ends of adjacent car bodies of an articulated can which will maintain these ends in their proper positions relative to each other and at the same time permit the bodies to swivel 'freely in all directions.
Another object of the invention is to provide the adjacent ends of-adjacent underframes of an articulated car with a joint which will permit said underframes to swivel freely in all directions and yet prevent relative bodily sidewise or vertical movement between the ends-of the underframes.
A further object of the invention is to provide a swivel connection between the adacent bodies of an articulated car, which comprises a projection formed on the under frame of one body and a recess formed in the adjacent underframe adapted to receive said projection so that the bodies can swivel freely in all directions and at the same time will be prevented from moving vertically or sidewise relative to each other.
These and other objects will be apparent from the following description.
Referring to the drawings in which like reference characters refer to like parts, Fig. l is a lan view of the adjacent end portions of two adjacent bodies of an articulated car embodying the invention, the superstructure being omitted; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. '1, and Fig. 3 is a plan view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a modification of the invention, the floor plate being omitted. p
Referring now in detail to the drawings, the reference character 1 indicates an articulated car unit which comprises a plurality of car bodies 2. It will here be noted that the connection between the car bodies and the truck is such that the projection 14, due to its engagement in'the recess 15, will prevent the underframe of one of the bodies from rising above the underirame of the adjacent body or any other'such bodily movement, and t at it w' 1 permit free swiveling movement of the odies relative to each other, and atthe same time maintain the ends of the bodies in such positions relative to each other that the longitudinal center lines of the bodies will pass through the center of the connection at all times re ardless of the angle one car assumes re ative to the other.
It will be further noted that the projection 14 when in the recess 15, rovides a means for transferring the bu ng shocks from one to the .other without having the walls 10 engage each other.
In Fig. 3 a modification of the invention has been illustrated in which the end of one body 'has secured thereto a separate member 17 having a recess 18 formed therein for the' reception of the projection 14 formed integral with a separate member 19 secured to the adjacent end of an ad acent body. In this modification it will be noted that these members ma be readily removed or replaced when desire without in any way interfering with the underframe or bodycenter bearing members. 1
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which this invention ap rtains that changes ma be made in the etails ofthe invention without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent/is:-
1. In an articulated car comprisin a plurality of car bodies, underframes or said bodies, and means. for connecting the adjacent ends of adjacent underfram sai means comprising a spherical projection on one of said ends adapted to engage the other of said ends. 5 j

4. In an articulated car comprisin a plurality of car bodies, underframes or said bodies, body center bearings depending from the adjacent ends of adjacent underframes, a

5. A connection for the adjacent ends of two underframes of an articu ated car, comprising body and truck center bearings, and a spherical pro 'ection on one of said underframes adapte to engage the other of said underfiames above said center bearings.
6. A connection for the adjacent ends of two underframes of an articu ated car, com.- prising a spherical projection on one of said ends adapted to loosely engage the other. of said ends.
7. In an articulated car comprising a plurality of car bodies, aytruck supporting the adjacent ends of two of said bodies, center bearing members on said bodies'and truck adapted to cooperate to prevent lon 'tudinal and transverse movement of said es relative to said truck and to each other, and means above said truck for preventin relative vertical movement between sai ends, said means comprisin a projection of spherical form on "one 0 said ends adapted to engage the other of said ends.

In an articulated car comprising a bodies, a truck supporting the adjacent ends of two of said bodies, a truck center bearing on said truck, a body center bearing on each of said ends adapted to cooperate with said truck center bearing to permit swiveling movement between said bodies and truck and to prevent longitudinal movement of said bodies away from each other, a projection on one of said ends adapted to engage the other of said ends to pro-- vent longitudinal movement of said bodies toward each other.
