GAME.

This invention relates to games, and more particularly to a type of game which is edu cational, instructive, commercial and amusing, and one which embodies certain features of what is at present known as a crossword puzzle. 7

An object of the invention is to provide a game as specified, which includes a board having a plurality of squares laid out thereon, each of which is bound at its corners by pegs which project above the surface of the board, and which cooperate with letter carrying cards or squares for holding the cards or squares in position on the board for the spelling of words or for the forming of any predetermined definite object, such as for instance, the card may carry portions of a picture, map, or the like, and when properly placed upon the board, the completed picture, map, or the like, will be provided.

A further object of the invention is to provide cards carrying letters or analogous structures which have the corners thereof cut away for frictional engagement with the pegs to hold the cards in position, and which cards are further provided with semi-circular openings in their side-edges intermediate their corners to permit a suitable tool, finger nail or the like to be placed therein for removing one of the cards when it has been improperly positioned.

Other objects of the invention. will appear in the following detail description, and in the accompanying drawings wherein:

Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved board, showing some of the cards in position.

Figure 2 is a vertical section through the board showing some of the cards in position.

Figure 3 is a detail one of the cards.

Figure 4 is a detail side elevation of a tool which may be used in connection with the board for removing the cards.

Figure 5 is a top plan of the tool.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the improved game comprises the board 1 which may be made of any suitable mate rial and is provided with a plurality of openings 2 disposed in equally spaced relationship one to the other, so as to provide a plurality of equal sized squares on the surface of the board. by the openings 2, may be variedas desired. Pegs 8 are inserted in the openings 2 and project short distances above the face of the board 1, as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawings. A plurality of square cards 4 are provided which may have the letters of the alphabet, portions of a design, picture, map, words, photograph, stamp, a code or group of words 011 either or both of their faces, and certain of which cards are blank or cross-hatched, as indicated at e to provide blank spaces in playing the game. The cards l have their corners cut away on quarter circles so as to fit tightly against the pegs 3 to hold the cards in place. Furthermore, each of the cards is provided with a semi circular cut-out portion 6 at opposite sides intermediate its corners which when two cards are placed in edgewise engagement provides a circular opening into which the point 10 of the tool 11 may be inserted for removing one of the cards which has been improperly played.

The tool 11 has its end 10 pointed, as clearly shown in Figures 4 and 5 of the drawings, and its opposite end 12 beveled to form a chisel-like edge which may be inserted beneath the edges of the cards or squares 4 for removing them when it is desired to rearrange the cards on the board.

lVhile in the foregoing description, the device has been described as a game,it is to be understood, that it may also be used for various other purposes amongst which are as an announcement board, an index board for advertising purposes, and various other purposes wherein it is desired to change wording or lettering and also that while the cards 4 are shown as it is to be understood, that they may have fragments 'of pictures, thereon so that when assembled properly, a unitary picture, map or the like, will be provided on the face of the board. While in the foregoing description and in the draw ings, the pegs are shown asuniformly spaced to provide squares of equal size it is to be understood, that the pegs may be located either in uniform or in un-uniform relation to provide spaces other than perfect squares, if it is so desired, without departing from the spirit; of this invention.

It is to be understood, of course, that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations, and therefore, I do not having letters thereon,

Nl'iat I claim is:

In a device as set forth, a board, a plurality of pegs carried by said'board, at uniformly spaced intervals and having portions thereof projecting from the face of the board, a plurality of cards having their corners cut-away in quarter circle formation for frictional engagement with the pegs for holding the cards in position on the face of the board, 7 said cards having cut-out portions in semicircular formation in opposite sides intermediate their corners and some of said cards bearing indicia and the remaining or said cards being blank and cross hatched.
