Description
FFC.
PHILANDER H. STANDISH, OF JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FCR COILING METAL RODS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,367, dated February 2, 1875; application filed September 26, 1874.
OASE A.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILANDER H. STAND- IsH, of Jefferson City, Cole county, Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Machine for Coilin g Metal Rods, of which the following' is a specilication:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a plan view of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is aside elevation 5 and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the mandrel, and partly a plan and partly a sectional elevation of a coil bent ready for cutting.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the mandrel; B, the bending-roller; C, the guide, and D the Weighted lever, in which the roller and the guide are mounted. The mandrel consists of a plain ilat bar of steel, Wide and thick as the largest coil to be bent, with an oval tapered point, E, graduated from the size of the largest to that of the smallest coil to be made, and the bar is fitted in the hollow shaft of the driving-Wheel F, so as to be shifted along it, to cause the tapered point to project under the .bending-Wheel more or` less, according to the size of the coils to be made, and said bar is provided With a collar, G, and a set-screw, H, at each end of the hollow shaft, for holding it Wherever it may be set, to utilize the same machine for coils of all sizes, the bending-Wheel only being changed, and the said Wheel for that purpose being fitted detachably in the slotted lever, and the guide is tted adjustably in the slot K of the lever, to adjust to the wheels of ditt'erent sizes. The stock Will be supplied to the machine progressively from a reel, L, When small rods capable of bending readily are used.
Having thus described. my invention, I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, substantially as herein shown and described, of the slotted lever D, adjustable guide C, bending-roll B, tapered mandrel A, wheel F, and collars G Gr, pro vided With set-screws H H.
PHILANDER H. STANDISH.
