Application filed Dctober 13, 1924.
This invention relates to a device especially designed :tor handling` and measuring` lard or butter or the like material designed primarily 'for use in the retail trade ttor permitting lard or analogous material to be handled and measured with the minimum amount ol waste.
Another in'iportant object oit the invention is to provide a device ot this cl'iaracter which will be exceptionally sanitary. and one wherein it will be unnecessary tor the person using the device to touch the material with his hands.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details ot construction hereinafter described and claimed it being` understood that changes in the precise embodiment ot -the invention herein disclosed. may be made within the scope ot what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view ot a device constructed in accordance with the inven tion.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the device, and taken on line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3--3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail view disclosing the plunger rod and its bearing` Referring to the drawing in detail, the reterence character 5 indicates the tubular body portion of the device to which the rod 6 is connected and as shown, this rod is positioned adjacent to the discharge end of the body portion and divides the discharge end of the body portion.
An opening 9 is formed in the horizontal Serial No. '743.452,
The opening` 9 is also provided with notches 14 to permit the pin to be moved through the opening and brought into engagement with the walls of the cut out portions 11 when 'it is desired to force the body portion into the material.
An inverted U-shaped bearing member is indicated at 15 and has connection with the body 5 at 16. the upper or horizontal portion 17 of the memberl 15 being supplied 'with a suitable opening surrounded by the flange 18 to accommodate and act as a bearing for the rod 13. on the upper end of the rod 13 and affords means whereby an operator maycontrol the movements of the rod 13.
Mounted on the lower end ot the rod 13 is the plunger 2O which may be moved to a position adjacent to the upper portion of the body 5 when it is desired to fill the body portion 5, but acts to eject material contained in the body portion when the rod is moved in the opposite direction.
Forming a part ot the plunger is an .inwardly extended enlarged circular portion G having its inner surface spaced 'from the pin 12 so that when the plunger is moved to its innermost position, the pin 12 may pass through the notches 14 associated therewith and drop into the cut out portion 11 to restrict movement of the plunger with respect to the section 8.
In the use oi the device, the plunger is moved to a position at the upper end of the body portion 5 and the rod 13 given a slight turn to cause the pin 12 to move through the notches 14 and into a position to engage the walls of the cut out portions 11 of the liange 10. The device may now be forced into a container filled with lard or similar material, whereupon the device may be withdrawn. The rod 13 is now moved to cause A handle 19 is mounted the pin 12 to pass through the notches 14; to the opposite side of the bearing or horizontal section 8.
A further movement of the rod 13 will Cause the plunger to engage the material and force it from the body portion 5.
I claim:-
In e device .of the character described, e cylindrical body portion, en inverted UA- sheped member secured to the body portion and having the ends thereof extending to a. point adjacent to the out-er .end vofll the cylindrical body portion, :t second inverted U- Sheped member hat-ving arms secured 4to the body portion and disposed et right angles to the rst mentioned inverted Ueheped mem ber, the inverted U-shaped members being; disposed in spaced relation with yerich other, ay rod operating through the inverted U- shaped members and having a handle on ite upper end7 a plunger on .the Vopposite end of the rod, Said plu-nger adapted to opera-te in the body portion, to force materiel from vthe body portion.
Vln testimony that l claim the tort-"roinglj as my .owm l have hereto ulixed my Signa- L Lure.
