rll'his invention relates to iiuid pumps and has tor one oi its primary objects the provision ot a pump ot simple construction which will pump at full elticiency in either direction by merely rearranging some of the parts thereof.
Another object ot my invention is the provision of a pump, the casing of which is so constructed that one portion may be. detached i'or exposure and/or removal ot the pumping elements` while the remaining portion serves as a, stay to the pipe line.
A. further object resides in the novel arrangement and` construction oi parts herein after more tally pointed out.
How the foregoing, together with such other objects and advantages as may hereinafter appear, or are incident to my invention, are realized, is illust-rated in preferred lorm in the accompanying drawings, where- 1nlig. 1 is a sectional side elevation oi a pump embodying my improvements:

Referring now to Figure vl, it will be seen that the arrangement ot parts is such that the Flow oi the fluid is from the `left to the right and that the pump comprises in general the casing A, and the pumping elements B which are constructed and arranged to be handable as a unit, such unit being clearly shown in Fig. 4. r
The casing A is ot elbow like form and 1s divided into three sections` 5 being an elbow member normally constituting the inlet portion of the pump, 6 a similar member *normally constituting the outlet portion, and 7 a tubular intermediate member for connecting the members and 6. rllhe casing is longitudinally splity in its general plane as indicated at 8 so that a portion. thereof, in this instance the upper portion, may be removed to give access to the pumping elements B, the removable portion constituting in effect a cover formed of a portion of the elbow The members referred to are provided with flanges suitable :for securing them together and to the pipe line 9. The cover portion may be detachably secured to the lower portion ot the casing in any suitable manner.
Thus it will be seen by this arrangement that the cover may be detached to expose and/or to remove the pumping unit without disturbing the pipe line; in other words the remaining or lower portion of the casing serves as a stay tor the line. lit desirable the cover portion may be attached to the lower portion and caps 21 secured thereto covering the opening iior the shaft, as shown Vin Fig. 5, thus providing a continuous pipe like connection `for the line thru which duid may freely pass, there being no interference with the pumping elements.
Reverting now to the pumping unit, l indicates the propeller shaft having 'bearings 1l carried by th" casing, l2 the propeller, 13 a reversible lining for the casing :il and it and l guiding and deiiecting cones respectively, said lining 13 and the cones 1li and 15 defining the inlet and delivery chambers oi' the pump. The lining i3 is here shown as made in two sections, the section i6 adjacent the impeller being readily replaceable .as wear taires place, and the lining as a whole being supported the casing and complementary thereto in either end to position, rifo this end the lining is provided with flanges, ll of diilerent depths adapted to register with the supporting surfaces 18 on the interior ot the casing, such flanges and surfaces being complementary ineither end to position ot the lining; rThe cones 11i and 15 are carried by the casing in any suitable manner.I

, Referring to Fig. 2. it will be seen that `the impeller elements B, including the lining 13 has been reversed end for end so that by merely reversing the direction of rotation ot the shaft 10 the pump will deliver in the opposite direction, the elbow member 6, of course, becoming the inlet and the member 5 the outlet. ln this connection, it is to be noted that the impeller is so located on the shaft as to register properly with the lining 13 in its reversed position and that the cover of the casing is symmetrical about its vertical centre line so that it may be replaced in eitherend to position producing the same inniembers and the intermediate membeinlet and delivery chambers as in lilig. l,-
whereby the pump functions equally well in either direction.
Suitable couplings 20-20 are provided at either end of the impeller shaft and eXterior of the casing for connection to a driving mechanism, these couplings being so spaced that driving connection can be made between either end and a iixed motor or other source of power.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by reversing the parts as described the iiow oi the fiuid may be reversed, the pump operating at full eliiciency in either direction, which result cannot be attained with pump impellers designed to pump in either direction by merely reversing the rotation of the pump.
By my invention I can use a screw pump and secure full efficiency in either direction of rotation.
What I claim is:
l. A. reversible pump including pumping elements reversible end for end, and a casing for said elements symmetrical to each side of its vertical centre line and split in a direction longitudinally of the axis of said elements, whereby said pumping elements may be reversed end for end therein.
2. A. reversible pump including pumping elements, reversible end for end, and a casing for said elements symmetrical to each side of its vertical centre line, whereby said pumping elements may be reversed end for end therein, the casing having like inlet and discharge members and the pumping elements inciuding a casing like member formed to provide a proper delivery cham-- ber for the pump.
3. In a reversible pump, the combination of a casin g a pumping unit comprising a shaft, gui ing and deflecting cones, an impeller, and a deflecting and guiding liner; and supporting means for said pumping unit on said casing, the casing and pumping unit being complementary for support of the unit when the latter is reversed end for end.
4t., A reversible pump comprising in combination a casing having a fluid inlet and a iuid delivery outlet: a lining for said casing formed to deflect and guide the iiuid and re- K versible end `for end; an impeller shaft: and
an impeller reversible end for end with its shaft, said impeller being so disposed on its shaft to have the same relation to the lining when said parts are in normal or in reversed positions. v
5. A reversible pump comprising in combination a horizontally split casing having a fluid inlet and a fluid delivery outlet, the upper portion of which is reversible end for end, an impeller and impeller shaft having its bearing in said casing and being reversible end for end, an end for end reversible fluid defiecting and guiding lining for said casing, and supporting means for said lining, all of said reversible elements being complementary to their associated elements in end for end positions.
6. A reversible pump comprising a pair of spaced elbow members, each of which is adapted to constitute either the inlet or the discharge of the pump depending on the direction of flow; an intermediate casing uniting the two; a pump shaftI and pump runner and pump casing constituting a unit handable as such; said elbows each having similar bearing means whereby said unit may be reversed end for end; the elbows and the intermediate casing being split in a direction lengthwise of the pump shaft, whereby said unit may be inserted or removed; said pump casing being supported from said intermediate casing and said two casings being complementary for support of the pump casing when the latter is reversed end for end.
In combination a pipe line having a section thereof formed of a pair of spaced elbow members and an intermediate member uniting the two., said section being split in the general plane thereof; and pumplng elements insertable in and removable from said section upon removal of one portion of the section, the remaining portion serving to stay the pipe line and the removed portion of the section upon being replaced with the pumping elements removed serving to provide a noninterrupted connection for the line.
8. In combination a pipe line having a section thereof formed of a pair of spaced elbow members and an intermediate member uniting the two, said section being split in the general plane thereof; and pumping elements insertable in and removable from said section upon removal of one portion of the section, the remaining portion serving to stay the pipe line, and said elbow members having detachable bearing means for the pumping elements.
9. In combination a pipe line having a section thereof ,formed of a pair of spaced elbow members and an intermediate. member uniting the two; pumping elements handable as a unit insertable in and removable from said section, the section being so split that one portion constitutes a cover and the other a stay for the line; and detachable bearing means for said pumping elements.
10. In combination a pipe line having a section thereof formed of a pair of spaced elbow members and an intermediate member uniting the two, said section being split in the general plane thereof; and pumping elements handable as a unit insertable in and removable from said section upon removal of one portion of the section, the remaining portion serving to stay the pipe line, together with means for attaching said section to the pi e line.
11. In com mation a pipe line having a IMD section thereof formed of a pair of spaced elbow members and an intermediate member uniting the two, said section being split in the general lane thereof; and pumping elements banda )le as a unit insertable in and removable from said section upon removal of one portion of the section, the remaining portion servin to stay the pipe line, together with driving means for 'said pumping elements exterior of said section.
12. In combination a pipe line and a'pump. in said line, including pumping elements reversible end for end anda casing for said elements symmetrical to .each side of its vertical centre line, whereby said pumping 15 maining portion of the'casing serving to 20 support t e pumping elements and to stay the pipe line.
