Description
UNITED STATES PATENT GEEroE.
JACOB F. LANDIS, OF HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
`uwPRovEwnENT IN CHEESE-MILLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,189, dated January Q6, 1875; application filed December 19, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAooB F. LANDIS, of Harrisburg, Dauphin county, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Cheese- Mills; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and correct description of the same, reference `bein g had to the accompanying drawings, in which the figure is a perspective view.
My invention relates to machines for granulatin g substances by forcing them through perforated metal or sieves, and is especially adapted to pulverizing and granulating cheese. My invention consists in constructing the perforated reservoir for the cheese in a conical form and introducing therein a removable revolvin g agitator or grinder, by which the cheese or other material is forced through the aper- Vture in the sheet metal; and it also consists in graduating the sides of the reservoir, so that it will indicate the quantity of material contained therein.
In the drawing, A represents a rim, to the lower edge of which is secured an inverted perforated cone,'B. Within this inverted cone is the agitator C, which is revolved by means of the shaft D and crank I. The agitator is made to t the inside of the cone B, resting upon the sides and centering in the apex. The shaft D is secured to the agitator C by inserting its square lower end into a socket in the top of the agitator, by which means the shaft is easily removed from the socket and the agitator removed from the cone and cleaned. Upon either side of the rimA are lugs L, by which the apparatus may be suspended in the neck of a vessel when in operation, and the material, as it falls from the pertbrations, collected. A handle, H, upon one side of the rim A completes the construction of my device, except the graduatngmarks upon the cone, marked and 1, which indicate the amount of contents contained in the reservoir, and by which the amount of material to be granulated may be regulated.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a cheese-mill, a conical perforated reservoir containing a rotary removable agitator or grinder, substantially as described.
2. A cheesemill consisting of a conical perforated reservoir, removable agitator, lugs L, and handle H, substantially as described.
3. A perforated conical cheese-mill, provided with a graduated scale to indicate the amount of material granulated, substantially as described.
The above specification of my said invention signed and witnessed, at Washington, thisV 16th day of December, A. D. 1874.
JACOB F. LANDIS. Witnesses:
