QUNITED STATES PATENT orFrcE.
WILHELMFALKENBERG, on NEW YORK, n. Y., AssIen'oit To Annual wmmcn; on NEW YORK, N. Y.
PORTABLE X-RAY APPARATUS.
Application filed June 6,
The object of my invention is a portable allkinds of rays used for electro-therapeutic treatments are produced or generated including X-rays, and high frequency currents in order to allow their use with faradization, salvanisation, galvanization, cathaphoresis, electrolysis, caustic treatments, endoscopy, lightand thermo-therapeutics and also with the generation of ozone, etc.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an apparatus of this kind which in compact arrangement contains all the apparatus and circuits necessary for the above named electromedical purposes.
A- fu'rther object of my invention is the provision of an apparatus of this kind in which means are provided for preventing the formation of arch lights by the arrangement of specially welded wolfram contacts. A still further object of the invention is the provisionof such an apparatus which is equipped with special means for allowing a i are vertical support of the Tesla transformer adapted to receive the X-ray tube allowing a-convenient foldingof the same against the bottom of the apparatus casing when notinuse.
These and other objects of my invention willbecome more fully knownas thedescription of the same proceeds, and will then be specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure: Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the arrangement of the various instru- V ments within the novel electro-medical hand apparatus constructed according to my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of my apparatus, open. a
Figure 3 is a side view of my apparatus partly in section; h
In the diagrammatic illustration of the apparatus in Figure 1, 1O designates the electric socket by means of which the apparatusi can be attached to any electric light circuit.
A switch 11 is provided in the primary circuit 12 so that according to the position of this switch, 110 or 220 voltage may be used. A selectorswitch 13 is located behind the switch in order to-allow a selective connectionof the primary circuit to a plurality 1923. Serial No. 643,744.
of circuits accordingto the specific use of the apparatus desired in the various treatments.
1. Use as X-my apparatus.
If the apparatus shall be used for the generationof X-rays or high frequency cur rents, the selector is switched to make connection with contact 14.
The conductor wire 15 connected with this contact 14, leads to an induction coil 16 with an interrupter or circuit breaker 17 the wolfram contacts of which are strongly heat dispensing, and prevent the formation of an arc, in order to ensure the formation of actinic sparks or raysand therewith a high efticiency'of the oscillation circuit arranged parallel to the circuit breaker. v y
This oscillation circuit comprises the magnetically and galvanic' ally coupled Tesla transformer 18 and condensers 19,the' capacity of whichcan be regulated by means of the two switches 20.
The return circuit Wire for the primary current is designated, 21;, and a current meter 31 is arranged'in shunt therewith.
'An X-ray tube 23 is connected with the secondary circuit of the Tesla transformer 18 over a regulable spark gap 24, and is operated by means of highfrequency currents by means of the well known circuit. The tube is attached to two suitable holders secured to the casing of the apparatus.
The intensity of the raysis strong enough to permit the mal'ring of Rontgen pictures besides permitting therapeuticaltreatments and also the illumination for the ascertainment of bone fractures and the discoveryof foreignbodies. The apportioning and control of the ray intensity is effected by means of a meter in the primary circuit and by means of the regulable capacity and regulable' spark gap 24.
2. Generation of high. frequency currents.
ably held in eyes 62 secured to the bottom plate of the casing and its upstanding brackets are adapted to engage suitable openings in the bottom plate 63 of the Tesla-transh galvanization. iiii W V 77 y 7 a The plate for meter 60 carries two pins 67, 68 for attachment of the slotted foot plate of the post for the mirror or reflector 44which can also, when the mirror is not used, carry a knob for establishing a spark gap between its knob and knob 69 on the Tesla transformer, which is also removable for the attachment of a comb if the instrument is used for ozonizing purposes as described.
What I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
In a portable X-ray apparatus of the class described, a Tesla transformer, a casing for said transformer, including a perforated bottom plate, a U-bracket movably secured to the bottom plate of said apparatus and adapted to engage with its free arms the perforations in said bottom plate, and a pin in said bottom plate journaled within the apparatus for allowing a foldin of said transformer against the bottom 0 said apparatus when not in use.
In testimony whereof I have atfixed my signature.
WILHELM FALKENBERG.
