This invention relates to improvements in shoe-inachinery; and it consists of the con structions; combinations and arrangements herein e rib dafld a med n An object of the inyei tionis toprovide a machine for sotreating, formingorj molding the flange of an insole onothei 7 shoe sole a pre n sia' p tanding; ut curv relationshipfto the; sole: thereby making the flange n ore readily accessible to. theanvil of a; lastingmacliihe; 4

amount of room can be provided for the edge of the shoe sole. The channel flange 3 may occur farther to the interior of a certain run of shoe soles and in such caseit is advisable to adjust the stud 21 to the rear so that there may be room for the. sole'edge which is more pronounced in this case.
Adjustments of the anvil plate 5 are made by a set screw 27 and fixed by a screw 28. The first merely bears against the back of the anvil plate but the second, passesthrough a slot 29. Upon loosening the lock screw 28 and turning the set screw 27 to-the right, the anvil plate 5 is caused to swing upon its y 'vot 6 so that the recess 8 is brought slightly higher in respectto the hammer head 9 and the concavity in the flange 3 is formed higher or farther toward the feather edge as a result. 1
This adjustment of the anvil plate 5 calls for limited yielding of the hammer 7 when performing a stroke. The range of action of the eccentric 16 is fixed, but a spring 80, interposed between the plunger sections 12 and 13, provides for any necessary yielding of the hammer 7. The plunger 12 has a stem 1 31 which is smaller in diameter than the bore 32 in the inner section 13. The resulting space'houses the spring 30 between a head 38 on the extremity of the stem and a suitable closure 34L at the opposite end of the bore. The closure may be formed either by upsetting the end of the section 13 after theparts are in place or by applying a washer or the like to hold the spring in place.
The operation is readily understood. The shaft 17 upon being driven causes the eccentric 16' to impart a rapid reciprocating motion tothe plunger 12 and its inner connected section 13. The plunger has appropriate bearing in the frame 4 and the frame is of such design that it is readily mounted The hammer 7 reciprocates in front of the anvil plate 5. There is a space between the recess 8 and hammer head 9 and a space between the hammer head 9 and table 19. The channel formed'by the combined spaces is intended to receive the flange 3 of a previously channeled and moistened insole 1. The hammering action of the head 9 against the flange 3 is readily started and the operator has only to move the sole past the anvil plate 5 when the rapid reciprocation of the hammer gives the flange the desired upstanding and curved or concaved formation. The formed or molded flange remains in the position given it by the hammer head, and when dried 1s ready for other steps in the process of mak ng a shoe.
WVhile the construction and arrangement of the improved insole flange molding machine is that of a generally preferred form,
obviously modifications and changes may be made without departing from the spiritof the invention or the scope of the'claims.
