It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the y of devices of that type to which the nt-ion appertains.
Although a preferred form of the invention has been shown, it will be understood that a mechanic, working within the scope or what is claimed, may make changes and alterations without departing from the spirit 01 the invention.
In the accompanying drawing F'g'ure 1 shows in elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention, parts being broken away; Figure 2 is an elevation wherein the device is viewed endwise; is a perspective view and Figure 0 showing the bearing.
Tn carrying out the invention, there is provided a U-shaped frame 1 including a base 2 and standards 3, the standards being inclined so that they project beyond the base 2. Through the instrumentality of a clamp 4, or the like, on the base 2, the frame 1 may be mounted on a gable or bar.
The standards 3 are supplied with longitudinal guide slots 5. In tne upper edges of he standards 3, openings 6 are fashioned, the openings connnunicating with the guide slots. The numeral 7 marks a main or upper roller, having trunnions 8 which are journaled in the guide slots 5 atthe upper ends thereof. A crank 9, or any other suitable device, mounted on one of the trunnions 8, constitutes means whereby the main roller 7 may be rotated. The numeral 10 designates an auxiliary or lower roller, the trunnions 11 of which are journale'd in the guide slots 5 of the standards 3 below the o enings 6.

The H-shaped bearing 12 is supplied with a depending boss 15, and in the upper surface of each bearing 12 there is a seat 16 wherein the trunnion 11 of the auxiliary roller 10 is journale'd. There is a boss 17 on each standard 3 at the lower end oi"- the corresponding guide slot 5. Compression springs 18 are located in the guide slots 5, the upper ends of the springs being engaged with the bosses 15 of the bearings 12, and the lower ends or". the springs 18 being engaged with the bosses 17 of the standards 3. The rollers 7 and 10 are provided with teeth 19 or any other suitable elements adapted to operate on the steak or other meat. The diameter of the rollers 10 and 7 is such that, when the rollers are in engagement with each other, under the pressure of the springs 18, the trunnions 11 of the auxiliary roller 10 are so disposed that they cannot pass out through the openings 6 in the standards 8. The machine, therelore, will not fall apart when it is not in use. W hen it is desired to take down the machine for cleaning, the auxiliary 10 is crowded downwardly, the springs 18 being compressed. Then, the main roller 7 may be removed, the trunnions 8 of the main roller passing outwardly through the openings 6. Then, the auxiliary roller 10 may be permitted to move upwardly, the trunnions 11 of the auxiliary roller passing outwardly through the openings 6. Finally, the bearings 12 and the springs 18 being removed, the machine being knocked down so that it may be Washed.
In practical operation, the roller 7 is rotated by means of the crank 9, and the meat is drawn between the rollers 7 and 10, and is worked back and forth until tender, the roller 10 moving downwardly, depending upon the tiiclrness of the meat. The springs 1c press the roller 10 the under surface or" the meat, and cause the meat to be pinched firmly between the rollers 7 and 10, the roller 10 being rotated by the meat, the moves back and forth, responsive to the rotation of the main roller 7.
Having thus described the invention, 1 'hat is claimed A meat tenderer comprising standards having elongated slots, the standards be ing provided in their forward edges with openings which communicate with the slots, an upper roller having trunnions journaled in the standards at the upper end ot the slots and above the openings, lower roller having trunnions journaled in the slots and located below the openings, the roller being of such diameter that when they are in contact, the trunnions of the lower tied, the standards being backwardly indined with respect to the Vertical whereby the trunnions of the upper roller will ride on the rear edges of the slots and tend to prevent the trunnions of the upper roller from escaping through the openings Whilst the meat is being removed and when the rotating means for the upper roller is released.
