It is intended that When the panels are positioned over-qthe pails or,-are detached tl iere firom that they shall bereinov'ed from the main body ofthe displaystand to facilitate such operation. To-this end, therefore, the panelsareeac'h provided with a pair of hinge elements 19 which cooperate with the hinge eleinents 3 in a Well known manner and, asillust-rated in: the drawings; Thus when it is desired to replace empty pail with a -fresh pail it is inerelyx necessary to ro k the an-amt 4i outwardl and to unhook the elements 19 thereof. Thereafter, the panel with the fresh pail may be positioned in operative relation to the body portion of the cabinet or stand. Obviously, it is desirable in dispensing the goods to provide means for holding the panels outwardly at the desired angle to facilitate such dispensing. Several means may be employed to accomplish this result and in the drawings I have illustrated two of the mechanisms which have been advantageously employed although, obviously, other means might be used.

Figure 3 showing one form of the locking means for holding the panel in its adjusted position will first be described. In this figure an arm or lever 20 is freely passed through a slot 21 formed in the lower portion 5 of the panel and is pivotally mounted, as indicated at 22, upon the forward side of the member 5. A manipulating handle of inconspicuous proportions, as indicated at 23, is preferably formed integrally with the arm or lever 20. This lever is provided with a plurality of teeth 24: which form notches adapted to engage a member 25 carried by the lower transverse strip 2 and to thus lock the panel in any one of a plurality of outwardly adjusted positions. It is to be noted that, particularly when a fresh pail is handled, the center of gravity of the pail and panel lies inwardly of a vertical line drawn through the hinge members 3 and 19 and consequently the panel tends to swing outwardly. To prevent this, the outermost notch 26 is formed in a reverse direction to the notches 24; and is utilized to lock the panel in closed position.

It is to be clearly understood that the curved type of member 20 may be varied and that also the contacting portion or stationary portion 25 may also be modified. It is intended, therefore, that these elements be interpreted merely as illustrative of the general principle rather than as exact details of the construction. For example, the lever 20 could easily be set to the side of the pail 7 and could thus provide additional room for the pail or else the entire device could be shortened.

In the modified form shown in Figures 5 and 6, the same general construction of panel and body portion are employed although a different means for adjustably locking the panel is provided. In this form of the invention, a pair of rails 27 are secured in any suitable manner to the body portion 1 and are, therefore, relatively fixed elements. The panel 4 is provided with. brackets 28 which pivotally support a U- shaped frame 29. This frame may be of rod like formation or, as shown in Figure 6, may be of channel iron construction. The outer ends of the arms of the frame 29 pivotally support levers 30. The rear ends vided for these shoes,for instance ordinary brake lining could be readily employed. The forward ends of the levers 30 are joined by a tension spring 33 and consequently the shoes 31 are held in their outermost position in binding engagement with the rails 27. The outer ends of the levers are further provided with cords or chains 34 which, after passing over sheaves 35, carried by the frame 29, extend inwardly. Thereafter, these cords pass over guiding sheaves 36 and pass outwardly to a plunger or rod 37 equipped with a manipulating handle or eyelet 38 and slidably mounted in a sleeve 39 carried by the panel at, as shown in Figure 6.

In operating the last described device, it is merely necessary, when it is desired to swing the panel outwardly, to grasp the eyelet 38 and draw the panel forwardly by means of such eyelet. The cords 34 are tensioned and thus rock the levers 30 thereby drawing the shoes 31 from binding engagement with the rails 27. When the tension on the cords is released, the levers move into the position shown in Figure 6 and the shoes again grip the rails thus locking the panel in its adjusted position. Thus means are provided for adjustably locking the panel in any one of several positions and for looking it in closed position. Obviously a pivoted lever could be connected with the cords 34 and substituted for the member 37 Without departing from the spirit of the invention.

It will be seen, therefore, that a display stand for pails has been provided in which individual panels are furnished for each of the several pails, in which the panels may be removed when substituting fresh pails, and in which the pails and panels may be held in any one of several positions of adjustment or may be locked in their innermost position.

Although the invention has been described ".1 considerable detail, it is to be understood. that the invention may be variously embodied and is, therefore, to be limited only as claimed.

I claim:

1. A display stand for pails comprising body portion, a plurality of panels hingedly mounted thereon adjacent their upper edges and adapted to normally hang downwardly, means carried by each panel for holding a pail temporarily rigid with the panel, and automatic means associated with each panel for temporarily holding the panel outwardly in any of a plurality of positions of angular adjustment.

A display stand for pails comprising a hodfy portion, a plurality of panels hingedly mounted thereon adjacent their upper edges and adapted to normally hang downwardly, means carried by each panel for holding a pail temporarily rigid With the panel, automatic means associated With each panel for temporarily holding the panel in any of a plurality of positions of angular adjustment, and a handle located exteriorly of each panel and operatively connected to and 10 controlling the corresponding automatic means and -for manipulating such panel.
