"UNITED v'S'IA'IES PATENT OFFI;
JOSEPH w. WILSON, OF wAnSAW, ILLINOIS,`
IMPROVEMENT |N MIDDLINGs-PURIFIERS.
y Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,771, dated January 12, 1875; application iiled Y i June 6, 1874. v
To al'l'fwhom it may concern B e it known that I, J OSEPHW. WILSON, of Warsaw, in the county of Hancock and State of Illinois, 11ave-invented anew and Improved Middlings-Puritier, of which the following is a specification: J l. v
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointedoutin the claims. i
Figure lis a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved purier, and Fig. 2 is a Similar letters of reference indicate corre` sponding parts. A is a spout, through which the middlings are passed into a stationary' bolt, d, which incloses a fan, b, to the outer edges of which are attached brushes c, for the purpose of agitating the`n1iddlings,l and to prevent the bolt-A cloth from clogging.- The fan b takes the air I :around the shaft at the bottom, and forces it, together with middlingsjand impurities, out
into chamber f, where there is a current of air passing upward to fan a, which carries the im-- purities up and out intoY a suitable dust-room,-
While the middlings are allowed to Vfall to the sweep-w, which discharges themat the opening m onto a horizontal bolt, h, which descends to the air-trunk k. The frame of this bolt is furnished with IOOpSIQ'thrOughW-hieh are passed the ods l, which` reston-` two .A springs, a', at the uter ends,and shouldhaveV lnation wit-h chambers t' q S,`suctionfan a, and horizontal bolt h, as and for the purpose specione springbetween them at the'fother endl',
` lhe rods are made to reciprocate by therec centric U, and they are furnished with checkL nuts b', against vwhich the loops on the-,bolt
strike, imparting to it a jarring longitudinal motion, which, together with a quivering motion by the vibration of the rods, keeps the middlin gs constantly agitated over the cloth, Y
and also keeps the cloth clean withoutthe aid of knoekers orbrnshes.
S, represents the top and sidesof an air-y chamber, of which the bolt h forms -the bot tom. Air is taken in at each end'of this chamber, and drawn longitudinally over thebolt, also up through it, for the purpose of gathering up anyimpurities that may be inamong the middlings, and carrying them off through theair-trunk j. -The clean middlings fall into Y hopper it. The tailings are discharged oft' the end ofthe bolt into the air trunk k, where they are carried up into an eXpansion-chamber, ,'lettingback onto the bolt h, through spout-lp," anything lifted through the trunks k,
andzjalso another trunk, j, drawing from the up'perpart of the boltanything too heavy to bev allowed to pass into the dust-room.
I propose to employ one or more of these Y trunks j, leading from air-chambers into thev expansionchamber, or vinto trunk k. From the expansion-chamber the impurities are carried oif through trunk q by the draft of fa'n a.
By this contrivance the middlings are kept agitated throughout the entire passage through the machine.
Havingthus described my invention, lclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- -i l. The combination of suction=f`an a, fan b, having brushes c, stationary bottomless bolt d, and circumjacent chamber f, allfeonstructed and arranged to operate substantially in the manner described. Y 2. The air-trunks cj and spout p, in combi- 3. 'The vcombination of horizontal bolt h, rods l, eccentric U,`springs ad, loops t, and "check-nuts b', substantially as and for the purpose specified. l
