ELECTROSTATIC CONDENSER.

My invention relates to condensers designed to receive electrostatic charges and has for its general ob ect the prov1s1on of terminals of improved and simplified formadapted to maintain the electrostatic charge {)eceiving and dielectric members in assem- The terminals of my invention are of U shape and embrace the charge receiving and dielectric members between their sides. In order that additional elements need not be employed for maintaining the aforesaid parts of the condenser in assembly, I indent the terminal sides into the insulating plates that are preferably interposed between the sides of'the terminal and the charge receiving and dielectric members.
The invention will be more fully explained in connection with the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a condenser constructed in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Like parts are indicated by similar characters of reference throughout the different figures.
The condenser illustrated includes two rec tangular plates 1 and 2 of suitable insulating material such as bakelite.
Two rectangular charge receiving sheets 3 and 4, preferably of tinfoil, are employ each sheet constituting an electrical side of the condenser though it is to be understood that each side of the condenser may have a plurality of suitably related charge receiving sheets. A solid dielectric 5, preferably a rectangular sheet of mica, is interposed between the two charge receiving sheets that respectively have extensions 3' 4 folded over the insulating plate 1, these extensions being at opposite geometrical sides of the condenser.
Two metallic terminals 6 and 7 are employed, each terminal being individual to and embracing one of two opposite geometrical condenser sides. Each terminal engages the folded extension of the charge re ceiving sheet thereat. Each side of each terminal has an indentation 8 at each end which projects into the adjac nt insulating sheet. The folded cxtensiom of the. charge receiving; sheets are each penetrated by two of the indentations upon the adjacent terminal, whereby firm electrical and mechanical unity of the terminals and the electrical "condenser sides to which they are individ ual is assured. The insulating plates are desirably formed with openings 9 that receive the projections 8 and the punched in portions of the tinfoil.
A mid portion of the bight of each terminal is deflected to constitute an car 10. This ear of each terminal preferably receives a binding screw 11 whose head is adapted to clamp a circuit conductor 12 against the corresponding ear. These ears may be provided with grooves 13 over which the screw heads are extended, these grooves being adapted to receive the circuit conductors if such location is preferred to the location of the conductor 12 illustrated. The ears are desirably formed with angular inner end portions 14 which serve to hold the bights of the sheet extensions 3' 4' against the adjacent ends of the insulating plate 1. Where it is preferred to have the sheet extensions 3' 4 embrace the same insulating plate 1 at the opposite sides of the condenser, the main portions 3 and 4 of each charge receiving sheet terminates short of the folded extensions of the other sheet.
It is obvious that changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention I 6,, claim as new and desire to secure by Lotte Patent the following 1.
