LATE SUPPORT FOR ELECTRIC-FIXTURE UNITS.

This invention relates to improvements in lath supports for electric fixture units.

The main object of this invention is to provide an improved lath supporting attachment for electric fixture units such as outlet boxes, switch boxes and the lilre which effectively supports the ends of the lath adjacent the unit.

A further object is to provide a structure having these advantages which is very economical in structure and easily installed.

Objects pertaining to details and economies of our invention will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

ln the drawing similar numerals of reference indicate similar parts in all of the views.

Referring to the drawing, 1 represents the studding of a building and 2 the lath secured to the studding as is usual practice. The fixture member 3 illustrated is an outlet box and this is supported by the bar t having the stud 5 slidably mounted thereon,` the box having a hole 6 in its bottom adapted to receive this stud. The stud is threaded to receive the clamping nut 8 by means of which the box is secured to the stud and, owing to the clamping of the stud, to the bar. The stud is secured in its adjusted position on the bar.

Our improved lath hOldIlg plate 9 iS formed as a sheet metal stamping having a central hole 10 therein to receive the stud, the plate'being clamped betwen the bar and the outlet box. At its ends the plate 9 has forwardly offset integral straps 11 adapted to receive the ends of the short lath 12, these lath being secured at their outer ends to the studdino' to which the supporting'bar is secured as by the nails 18.

To space the lath, the straps are provided with inwardly projecting lugs 14. To further assist in rigidly supporting the plate 9, 'it is provided with laterally projecting forwardly offset flanges 15, which engage the adjacent lath 2 at the sides thereof.

In the modification shown in F ig. 1V the outlet box 16 is secured to the support 17 by means of the screws 18 which also secure the plate 9. The supporting bar 17 is in practice provided with a series of holes 19 adapted to receive the nails by which it is attached to the studding, the bars 17 in practice being supplied in long strips or rolls and cut to the desired length.

We have illustrated and described our improvements in connection with an outlet box. This is shown, however, mainly in conventional form and it will be understood that other forms of ixture units may be supported in the same relation.

Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. The combination of a supporting bar, a stud slidably mounted on said bar, a latb holding plate apertured to receive said stud and having lath retaining straps at the ends thereof, a fixture member disposed on said stud upon said lath holding plate, and a clamping nut threaded upon said stud within said fixture member.

2. The combination of a support, a lixture member, means for securing said lixture member to said support, and a lath holding plate interposed between said lixture member and' support and apertured to receive said securing means, said plate having lath holders at its ends and having parts disposed laterally relative to said support to engage the lath at the sides of the support.
