Description

' D, and partitions d in PATEN T FFICE.
SHADRICK H. ORUMP, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT EN REFRIGERATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. E5S,67, dated January 1Q, 1875; application filed February 16, 1874.
To all Vwhom it may concern.- i
Be it lknown that I, SHADEIGK H. GRUMP, of Readin g, Berks county, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Refrigerator, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to obtain ready'access to the ice-boxes and water-cooler of 'a refrigerator without admitting Warm air to the provision-chamber. I attain this object by arranging the ice-boxes B B, water-cooler the upper portions of the refrigerator, and beneath the hinged top E of the latter, so that access can be readily obtained to the said boxes and cooler without permitting warm air to enter the provisionchambers, all as fully described hereafter, and as shown by the longitudinal and transverse vertical sections, Figures 1 and 2, of the accompanying drawing.
The rectangular casing A of the refrigerator has hinged doors b at the front, and a hinged top, E, and is` lined throughout with glass plates e, and the shelves a and internal partitions d are also constructed of glass. Each shelf a consists of a series of strips of glass, arranged vat a short distance apart, so as not to interfere with the free circulation of air. Space f occurs between the partitions d and the ice-boxes, and between the latter and the ends and sides of the refrigerator, for the downward passage of ourrents of cooled air to the provisions resting upon the shelves. The said partitions d serve to out off free communication between the upper and lower portions of the refrigerator, and thus prevent the admission of warm air to the provision-chambers when the hinged lid E is raised for the purpose of obtaining access to the ice-boxes B B and Watercooler D, which arearranged directly beneath the said lid, as shown in Fig. l. At the rear of the Water-cooler there is a space for provisions, across which extends a bar, h, provided with hooks, from which meat can be suspended.
I do not claim a glass-lined refrigerator, nor the use of glass for shelves, 85o. 5 but I claim as my invention- The partitions d, arranged between the iceboxes B B and the water-cooler D, and below the hinged top E of the refrigerator, as speciiied.
In testimony whereof I have signed myname to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SHADRICK H. GRUMP.
