PAD FOR VEHICLE TOPS.

The invention has `for its object to provide a pad for the top or covering of vehicleswhich is complete initself, that is, l
which includes the reinforcing web, the filler and the casing, and which may be supplied in an indeterminate length which may be rolled or folded and from which a required length may be cut, thereby saving time and cost, since the article may be manufactured and marketed as a trimming at a less cost than involved in preparing pads for vehicle tops in the accustomed way.v
Other objects and advantages will be ap# parent and suggests themselves as the nature of the invention'is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meetdifferent of a vehicle top, and
conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.

The pad comprises a casing l, a filler 2 therein of cotton or other preferred material, a lining 3 and a reinforcement 4, the latter being stitched or otherwise attached to the lining and the casing 1 being attached alongone edge to an edge of the lining and adapted to fold upon the latter, as indicated most clearly in Fig. 3. The reinforcement 4 consists of webbing and in the present instance includes two webs. However, it is to be understood that the number.

An edge portion of the strip is hemmed as indicated at 5, and the opposite edge portion is inturned as indicated at 6 and stitc-hed through the inner side of the casing and the lining 3. Opposite edge portions of the casing 1 are stitched to provide a finish and maintain the shape of the casing.
A pad constructed in accordance with the present invention may be of indefinite length and formed 'into a roll or package from which any required length may be cut, or the pad may be provided in given lengths.
To use a pad of the present form,the casing and the lining are extended and are placed upon the bows 7 of the vehicle top,
as shown most clearly in Figure 4, the lining i and reinforcement being tacked to the bows in the usual way. The next step is to fold the casing over the reinforcement and lining,
as shownmost clearly `in Figure 5, the free i edge ofthe casing being tacked or otherwise secured to the bows.
That is claimed is A vehicle top supporting pad formed of a piece of material folded on itself to kprovide t-hree layers each of substantially the same width, the folds being on oppositey sides and from opposite edges of the intermediate layer, the edges of the material be? gether on each sideof the filling, and the other outerlayer forming the lining for the pad and having reinforcements secured thereto, said lining being adapted to be folded away from the pad to be secured to the top support. f
