EXTENSION TABLE.

This invention relates to slides for extension tables and has for its object to provide a device of this character which will consist of few parts, be inexpensive to manufact-ure and strong and durable in operation.
A further object is to provide a table slide in which binding of the several parts due to warping will be reduced to a minimum.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character whose construction will be such that the tendency of the several parts to warp will be counteracted by the specific structure of the device, thus reducing warping to a minimum.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which similar characters of reference denote similar parts in the several views.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, the slide of the present invention comprises a base 1 side strips 2, and a central strip 3, all of substantially the same length.
The base 1 is provided in its upper surface with a longitudinal recess 4 in which is rigidly secured the central strip 3, by means of screws 5 or the like.
As shown more clearly in Fig. 4, the longitudinal faces of central strip 3 are each provided with a longitudinal recess 6, which recesses are preferably oppositely arranged. At one end of one of the recesses 6, is rigidly secured a stop 7, and at the opposite end of the'opposite recess 6 is rigidly secured a stop 8, said stops 7 and 8 being provided with reduced ends 7 and 8 respectively.
These stops 7 and 8 serve to limit the relative movement of the side strips 2 as will now be described.
Side strips 2 are each provided with a longitudinal recess in one of their longitudinal faces, as designated by numeral 9, and with a longitudinal recess 10 in the lower faces thereof.
The recesses 9 are so arranged as to be positioned adjacent the recesses 6 of the central strip 3 and the recesses 10 are so arranged as to be positioned adjacent longitudinal recesses llformed in the base 1 on each side of recess 4 and extending the full length of said base 1.
At each end of each recess 11 in base 1 is rigidly secured a stop 12 provided with a reduced end 12 and loosely and slidably mounted within each of the recesses 9 is a guide strip 13. Rigidly secured with one end of each recess 9 is a stop 14, and rigidly secured within each recess 10, near one end thereof is a stop 15,,stops 14 and 15 each being provided with a reduced end.
Secured to side strips 2, as more clearlyshown in Figs. 1 and 2, as the table top sections 15 and 16, as is usual in the. art.
With the parts in assembled position as shown in Fig. 4, to separate the table top sections 16 and 17, the base 1, of the slide being rigidly secured to the customary pedestal cap, it will be obvious, from an inspection of Fig. 5 that the side strips 2 will slide in opposite directions upon the upper face of base 1, (the lower edges of section 2 being supported by the upper face of base 1 as indicated at 18) until stops 15 reach stops 14 which limit the movement of the several sections. During this extension movement the side strips 2 will be guided by means of strips 13 within recesses 9, stops 8 and 14, also limiting the movement of the several parts of the device.
Because of the rigid connection of base 1 with central strip 3, it will be pbvious that should either of these parts tend to warp the rigid connections therebetween will serve to retain the parts in their normal positions.
What I claim is:
A table slide comprising a base provided with a central longitudinal groove throughout its length, a groove in said base on each side of said central groove and extending tl'iroughout the length of the base, a stop ill) in each end of the side grooves, a central strip rigidly secured in the central groove of the base, and provided with longitudinally disposed recesses extending throughout the length of said central strip, a stop in one end of each recess, side strips each having a runway on its inner side face extending throughout its length, stops at the ends of said runways, a guide strip slida- 10 bly mounted in the recesses of the central strip and extending into the runways of the side strips, a groove in the bottom face 01 each side strip registering with the side grooves of the base and a tongue in said grooves bridging the joint between the lower face of the side strips and the base.
