INDIRECT FULGURATION ELECTRODE.
The present invention relates to an im provement in electrodes adapted to be-employed inthe therapeutic use of loiv voltage high frequency electrical. currents bythe fulguration process, which has nonv become a common one in the application of electrical treatments to the human body.
The device of the invent-ion may be generally referred to as a finger rhcostat, inasmuch as it contemplates the control of electrical current by simple manipulation of the fingers of the physician, or other user, though it will be understood that, from certain aspects, the invention may be of broader scope than might be indicated by this designation.
In order that the use of this device may be clearly understood, it should be known that the process of treatment contemplated is the indirect method in which the patient may be positioned on an auto-condensation pad, to which current is supplie-d from a high frequency apparatus of any desired form. The current with which the body is charged may then be Withdrawn at the point of application of the electrode.
A principal object of this invention is the provision of a controlling device adapted for simple manipulation to control the amount of current Withdrawn from the body.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from the following description, which, taken in connection With the accompanying drawings, iscloses a preferred embodiment thereof.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure l is a perspective view of a device in which my invention is embodied, illustrating the method of control;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the insulated control member, showing the means Whereby it is connected to the fulguration point; and
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the parts shoivn in Fig. 2.
As thus illustrated, the electrode of my invention comprises a fulguration point 2l, which is held in an insulated handle 22 and connected by a Wire 23 With 'a controlling device generally indicated by the reference character 24. Said device comprises a current conducting plate, or bar, 25, which may lo@ Q German silver, or other suitable mate rial, and is embedded in an insulating hand piece 26, which latter has inserted therein7 from one end, a rod 2T contacting at one end with the ivire 2? and beingv connected With the bar by means of screws 28, which serve at once to hold said bar 25 in place and yto establish electrical connection with the rod 27.
The Wire 23 is enclosed in a tube 29, which may be of rubber, `or other suitable material, as also may the hand-piece 22. The handpiece 26 is provided VWith a recess 3l at one end to receive the tube 29 and it will be noted that the Wire 23, extending through the tube at this end, enters the body of the rod 27, as sho-Wn at 32. A. projection 33, at one end of said hand-piece, is slotted at 34 and the other end of the hand-piece is slotted at 35 to receive an elastic band, or strap, 36, by which said hand-piece may be held on the hand of the user, in the position shown in Fig. l.
lVith said hand-piece positioned as shown, the bar 25 may be engaged by one or more of the fingers of the hand of the user, which latter is indicated by the reference character 37. Thus more or less resistance is provided to cont-rol the current drawn by the fulguration point 21, it being understood that said current is grounded through the body of the physician, or other user of the device.
A suitable insulating support may be provided for the right hand Which engages the handle 22 and the physician may concentra-te his attention upon said point While controlling the operation by simply manipulating the fingers of his other hand.
It is thought that the invention and many of its attendant advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and it Will be apparent that various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the parts Without departingfrom the spirit and scope of the invention, or sacrificing all of its material advantages, the form hereinbefore described being merely a preferred embodiment thereof.
I claim:
l. An indirect fulguration electrode, comprising a fulguration point adapted to be held adjacent the body of a patient subjected to electricall current, and a control connected With said point, said control being adapted to be held in the hand of the user and manipulated by contact of one or more lingers therewith to vary the amount of current drawn troni the patient.
An indirect tulguration electrode, coniprising av ulguration point adapted to be held adjacent the body of a patient subjected to electrical current, and a control comprising an insulated current conducting ineniber connected 'with said point and adapted to be engaged by one or niore lingers ot' the user to vary the arnount ot' current drawn from the patient.
3. An indirect lulguration electrode, coinprising a tulguration point adapted to be held adjacent the body of a patient subjected to electrical current, and a control coinprising yan insulated current conducting member adapted to be secured to the hand o'l the user and connected with said tulguration point whereby the amount of current drawn trein the patient: may be varied in accordance with 'the extent ot Contact niade by one er inore et the users lingers.
An indirect :tulguration electrode, coinprising a 'fulguration point, an insulating handle by which said point niay be held in position adjacent a part to be treated on the body of a patient subjected to electrical curA rent, and a control connected with said point and adapted to have inore or lees resistance put in circuit therewith by the progressive removal ot the eperators fingers whereby to Vary the amount of current drawn from the patient.
5. n indirect ulguration electrode, coinprising a fulguration point, an insulatinr handle by which said point may be held in position adjacent a part to be treated on the body oi a patient subjected to electrical current, and a control connected with said point and adapted to have inore or less resistance applied thereto whereby to Vary the amount ot' current drawn from the patient, Said hanH dle being adapted to be held in one hand of the user and said control being adapted to be held in the other hand and manipula ed by engagement of one or more lingers therewith.
