Be it kno-wn that I, ALFRED MUNznP., a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county and State of New York, have invented certainV new and useful Improvements in Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in lamps, particularly those of an artistic or Figure 1is a view of the lamp; the skirt frame covering formingthe shade being omitted.
Figure 2 is a view showing the .connecting parts between the bust and skirt-frame, the latter part being shown detached. l
Figure 3 isa detail view showing the socket for an electric filament lamp. y
Referring to said drawings, numeral 10 designates a bust of a female ligure, adapted to be dressed in clothes in the manner ofa fancy doll representing an old fashioned lady. The bust may comprise a head 12, a torso 14, and arms 16, and in the torso 14 there is formed a socket 18, in which is placed the usual screw-threaded brass shell 2O and central plate 22 forming parts of the usual lamp socket. The torso is preferably n formed of a plaster composition, and the shell 2() may be set in said socket 18 by plaster, in the usual way. The base of the torso 14 around the socket y18 preferably has a recess 24 therein for receiving the wires 26 which are attached to the shell 2O and plate 22 of the socket, so that the wires'26 lie iush with the outer surface of the socket. 3() designates the usual electric lilament lamp, fitted in the socket 18.
40 designates the shade frame, formed of connected wires` 42, 43, 44 and having the form of a hoop-skirt frame, the said frame 40 being adapted to be covered with light The skirt figure and to `also act as a shade;` This skirt Vor covering maybe and preferably is, at-
tached to the torso and ydraped over said frame 40.
The wire 44 is the form of a partially closed` ring, to which the upper ends of the vertical` wires 42 are suitably connected, and another similar partially closed adjacent ring 46 is formed preferably fr om the same piece of wire, as by bending the -said wire down and back upon itself, as indicated at 48. One end 49 of the ring 46 is preferably free, as indicated. A gap or space 50 is left between the ends of the rings 44, 46.
y fabric, such as silk, to form a skirtffor the Y The base of the torso 14 is provided with a lug 60 which is preferably provided with a notch 6 2 therein. Th-e base'of the torsoV 14 1s of slightly vless diameter than the rings 44, 46 and is adapted to lit therein, the torso preferably i having' an: encircling rib 64 l adapted to rest on the said ring 44, and the gap 50 permits the lug 60 to move length-l wise thereof as the base of the torso 14 is fitted in the frame 40. When the torso and frame are together they may be fastened or locked together by turning the torso in the frame with the free end '49 of the ring 46 entering the notch 62in said lug 60. The spring in said end 49 of the ring 46 will re-v tard movement of said torso in said frame 40 tending to separate the two. The gap 50 also permits the wires 26 to pass into yand out 4of said frame 40, facilitating the attachment and detachment of said bust 10 and frame 40.
The frame 40, preferably rests on a table i portion adapted to bear on said lug to ren tard turning of the parts. e v
2. Means for connecting' a wire frame to a base, comprising a partially closed ring having a gap therein, and a lug, on said base adapted to ypass into said gap and when turned interlock with said ring, said base 'having a lamp socket in its lower part adapted to open into vsaid fram-e, said lring comprising a wire having a free end, and
said lug having a notch into Which said free end is adapted to enter When said base is turned in said frame. t
3. Means for connecting avvire frame to a base, comprising a partially Closed ring having a gap therein, and a lug' on said base adapted to pass into said gap and whenV turned interlock With saiolring, said base having a lamp` socket in 'its lower part pose set Jforth.
In testnnony W hereof, I have signed my name to this speoicationthis 25th day of April, 1924.
AIJERED MUNZER.
