IMPROVEMENT IN VCHURN-POWERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,311, dated December 29, 1874; application filed December 17, 1874.
To all whom 'it mom] concern Beit known that I, FREDERICK RAUH, of the city of Pittsburg, county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a4 as the operator may desire, by means of the machine shown in the accompanying drawing.
A is the churn; B B, the springs; C C, the weights, and D is the frame of the machine. a is the dasher of the churn. b is a walkingbeam. c is a rod passing through a slide at d for the purpose of regulating the motion of the machine, and is fastened by a thumbscrew, e. ff are large cog-Wheels, and are connected with drums on which the cords h h, supporting the weights, are coiled. g is a cog-wheel for the purpose ot' driving thecrank which moves the walking-beam b. t' is a screw fastening the two parts ot' the 4crank together. The manner ot' operating the machine is as follows: The Weights() C or the springs B B are wound up like a clock by means of a crank. It' the operator wishes to use the weights only the cords h L are removed from the springs B B and passed over the pulleys 0 0. It' the operator wishes to use the springs the cords are left as represented in the drawing. It` a slow stroke is wanted, move the slide d down the rod c and fasten by means of the thumb-screw 6. lf a quick stroke is wanted, move the slide np the rod and fasten with the thumbscrew e. By putting the screw t' through the upper hole in the crank t the dasher is made to work nearer the top of the churn, and by putting the screw z' through a lower hole in the crank the dasher is to Work nearer the bottom of the churn. The length of the stroke is regulated by means of the holes in the upper arm ofthe crank t.
I claim as my invention- The combination of weights, wheels, pulleys, springs, and regulator7 substantially as described, as and for the purpose set forth.
