Application filed March @1925. [se ial o. 13,141. i
To all whom it mag concern: g Be it knownthat I, ALFREn M. LANE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of St. Louis andv Stateof Miswhich the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to; window-attachments particularly adapted for useinjmoving .articles or materials into and out of buildings through the -windowfopenings therein. The principal object of the present invention is to devise a hoisting device which can be readily attached to and detachedfrom a window without damage thereto and which, when in position, is capable of supporting a considerable load. Another object is 'to provide adjustments whereby the device may be attached to windowsof different'sizes and types, struction, reduced cost of 1 manufacture, and compactness of design.* The invention consists in the combinations and ar rangeinents of parts hereinafter described; and claimed.
,Inzthe accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification and wherein lilrefl symbols refer to'like parts wherever theyoccur. I V
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary face view of the inner; face of the j amb member of a window "frame in the region of the sash pulleys,
showing a hoisting device embodying: my
invention attached thereto:.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section onthe line 2-2 in Fig. '1 i v Fig. 3 is a horizontal 33 in Fig. 1; and r v V ,F'g. 4: is a vertical section on the line 44 inFig.1.- f I In the accompanying drawing, my invensection on the line tion isillustrated as appliedto-a double-'.

F said drawing, 4: indicates the amb or pulley- -stile andfiindicates a pair of sash-pulleys mounted in openings rovided therefor in the pulley-stile anda apted to 'receivethe .weighted sash-lines (not shown) which slid- V H I of the window Sill-l6. My hoisting device comprises a metallic bar or beam"10 adapted .to beplaced hori d i'itis conside r a ALFRED M. LANE, or s'r. Louis, ivrrssou'nr, n'ssIeNon roj MGNAECH mnrnn rnqbvo'rs z'ontajlly within 2 the window frame{ adj acent' toc'one. of the pulley-stiles etin positioncrossw se,-'ther.eof. "l hefb ar l0 isllociated pulleys 5 "and c'xte'nds beyond the inn r bar is provided witha pair of parallel su .aqp qsite lthe lower portions of. the sash porting rods 11': which project horizontally from one side of said bar. Thefsupporting rods have stra ght nner end portions that are slidalolymounted'in transverse openings in the bar. 10 and are; threaded toar cceive nuts 12 that bear against the'op-posite sidesv .of the bar alld thus serve -to lock said rods thereto in the desired adjusted position.
The. rods 11 are provided witli upwardly acurved free end portions 18fwhose radius 1 V, "of curvature corresponds substantially. to the I curvatureiof the grooves thejsash-pulleys. f The beam 10'is attachedito' the window by inserting the" rods 11 "intoft-he' openings located beneath one pair of sash-pulleys 5' around the rear-portions thereof. By this with theircurved'end portions disposed in' the grooves of j said pulleys and hooked .80 arrangement, the-rodsll reston the lowei' edges of the;openings,in{which the pulleys aremounted and thusserve'to support the beam, While theengagement of the curved end portions of the rods withthe lower rear portions of the pulleys servestoprevent latera1 movementof the beam [away from the wil and thus cause transverse tilting of the bar.
pulley-stile and fresists any. tendency for j the free ends of the rods to swing upwardly 9O One of the-supporting rods is. mounted in an elongated horizontal slot 14 in the'hanger' bar, whereby said supportingrodis adapted to be adjusted lengthwise of said bar to ac-- commodate windows havingsash-pulleysthat j farespaced different distances apart.
I Slidably mounted on the inner end of the I .beanrlOi's a sleeve 15 fornied'at its inner ,end with alateral extension-or fiange16 10o adapted to abut against the inner corner side is preferably provided with a pad of leather 17 which serves to prevent damage to the window casing when forced thereagainst.
The upper edge of the inner end portion of the beam lS'fOiIllEiCl with teeth 18 which cooperate with corresponding teeth 19 formedin theupper surface of the opening that extends through the slide 15. This opening has a greater vertical dimension than the vertical dimension of the :bar,
whereby the slide may be moved upwardly I a distance siitlicie 'itv to cause the teeth of the slide and the bar 'to become disengaged. The co operative'teeth of the bar and slide are shaped like those of a saw and are. ar-
anged sons to resist movement of the slide away from the window while permitting the slide to be slid into. engagement therewith. The adjustable slide l lispr'ovided in its" bottom with an upwardly bowed leaf spring 20 which bearsagainst the under side of the hanger bar and thereby tends to hold the teeth of the bar and the adjustable slide in engagement with each other. The
. noted that the knee-brace performs the function of an inclined strut to braceand stiffen the overhanging portion of the beam and, at the same time, is adyustable longitudinally of the bar to accommodate window frames of different thicknesses. The articles or materials that are to be hoisted or lowered are suspended from the outer end of the beam by a rope (not shown) that passes through a block 2% having a swivel connection 23with a supporting hook 25'adapted to be mounted in any one of a series of. holes 26 provided therefor in the outer endof the beam. v 7
' it is obvious, from the foregoing description that my hoisting device is very. simple in construction, that it can be readily attached to and detached from a window, that it is capable of'supp'orting a considerable load, and that it can 'be adjusted. to. fit windows of different sizcs'and types.
" Obviousl the construction hereinb efore descr bed adm ts of, considerable mod ficationj without departing from i the invention.
