IMPROVEMENT IN ALMOND-GRATERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 58,290, dated December Q9, 1874 application filed July 11, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, J ULIUS LEVY, of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Almond-Crater, of which the following is a speciiication:
rlhe object of this invention is to produce a cheap, simple, and effective device for grating almonds, consisting of a roughened porous cylinder revolving within a hopper, whose bottom and sides being also roughened, and conforming' with the roundness ot' the cylinder near its base, will insure the almonds being thoroughly grated before passing into the drawer or receptacle below, provided for that purpose.
Figure l represents a sectional side view of my device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of cylinder with crank-spindle attached.

In the case here presented, the almonds are placed in the hopper A, on top ofthe cylinder B. The cover C of the hopper is then closed, and the almonds grated by'turnng the crank I), the almonds as fast as grated bein g caught in a drawer set below for that purpose.
The construction of the device is as follows: The letter E represents a box, on top of which the hopperAis firmly secured, on whose sides suitable bearin gs for the crank-spindle will be made. The sides F F and bottom ofthe said hopper are formed of tin or other metal capable of being punctured, and the roughened or ragged side placed on the inside of the hopper, so as to present a roughened face for the cylinder to grate the almonds against in its revolution. The base of the said hopper is rounded, so as to conform to the shape of the cylinder B, thus making it impossible for the almonds to escape being perfectly grated before falling into the drawer below. The cylinder B is made of tin or other metal, punctured in similar manner to that of the hopperlining `above descrlbed, and is made with a hollow box, G, extending from end to end, through which the crank-spindle H may beinserted or withdrawn from outside the hopper, when it may be desired to clean the device, and should the said cylinder become clogged with the gratings, it can thus easily be removed from the hopper and cleared of its cloggings by shaking the cylinder endwise, holes I being made in each end of the cylin- 'der for the special purpose of clearing the same.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The almond-'grater herein described, consist-ing of the hopper A, box E, corrugated or roughened lining and bottom F, and the removable grating-cylinder B, having an angular bo X, G, and a detachable handle, D, all constructed as herein shown and described, for
the purpose set forth.
