ELECTRIC SNAP swrrczr.
Application filed December Be it known that I, Nair. G. Hm'ns, a citizen of the United States, residing at stratforch'in the county of Fairlield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Electric Snap Switchesyand I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters ot reference niarkcd thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of'the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent in Fig. 1 a side view of an electric snap switch constructed in accordance with. my invention, with a portion of its porcelain body broken away.
Fig. 2 a transverse, sectional view of the same.
Fig. 3 a plan View of the yoke, a clip mounted thereon. and a switch-arm connected with the clip.

"This invention relates to improvement in electric snap switches, particularly to snap switches having an operating button of a bell-crank-lever type, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and convenient switch with particular reference to reducing its depth from front to rear, permitting it to be used in thin partitions, and
the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention, as herein shown, I employ a one-piece, sheet-metal switch-frame, comprising a narrow mounting-plate 10 adapted to be attached in the usual'mannerto a porcelain body 11. Midway of its length the plate is provided upon its opposite edges with two corresponding, depending arms 12, bent at a right angle to it and, therefore, parallel with each other, and each formed with a deep, lateral notch 13 providing an outwardly-faced bearingseat 14 for the reception of inwardly-turnedends 15 and 16 of a U-shaped yoke 17 formed from wire with a'short, inward ben'd 18 at. its center. Around one side of the yoke is a sheet-metal clip 19 provided with a clearance-opening 20 for the inwardly-projecting ends 16. This clip is also provided, on op- 15, 1925. Serial No. 75,519.
' positc sides, with fingers 21 which are brought together and extend through a switch-bar 22, which is thereby firmly secured to the clip 19, so that its ends willbe moved by the operation of the yoke into and out of engagement with contact-fingers 23 and 2i connected with terminals in the porcelain body in the usual manner. Setting over the bond 18 in the yoke is a spring 25, the upper end of which is connected with an arm 26 formed as a part of an operating lever 27, which is mounted upon a pin 28 extending through the arms 12 of the switch-frame adjacent tothe plate 10 thereof, the lever being proportioned and arranged so that, as it is moved toward one end orthe other of the plate, the yoke will be moved so as to snap the switch-bar 22 from one position to another, that is,'into -or out of engagement with the terminal 23, and into or out of engagement with the terminal 24;.
By forming a yoke from wire, it can be produced at a very low cost for manufacture, and the switch-bar is readily and firmly secured thereto by the sheet-metal yoke 19,
thus simplifying the cost of manufacture,
and, furthermore, by forming the yoke from wire, a comparatively small area is presented for contact with stop-fingers 29 at the lower ends of the depending arms 13, so that less noise when the yoke is snapped frommne position to the other is made than would be the case if the yoke were of flat sheet-metal.
I claim: 4
1. In an electric switch, the combination v with a switch-frame-having a mountingplate and two inwardly-bent, parallel arms formed with bearing-seats, of a U-shaped yoke formed from wire with inwardly-' turned ends for entrance into the bearingseats and with a centrally-arranged, upwardly-turned bend, a clip formed from sheet-metal and folded around one side of v the yoke and formed with fingers, a switchbar engaged by said fingers, an operating lever pivotally mounted in the switch-frame,
and a spring seated at one end on the inward bend in the yoke ,and coupled with the said lever.
"- 2. In an electric switch, thecombination "with a switch-frame having a mountingplate and two inwardly-bent, parallel arms formed with notches providing outwardlyfacing bearing-seats, of a U-shaped yoke formed from wire with inwardly-turned ends for entrance into said seat, and with by Which it is connected with said yoke, an
a centrally-arranged, inward bend, a sheetoperating-lever pivotaily mounted in the 10 metal clip folded around one side of said frame, and sspring set over the inward the yoke and formed with an opening for extension in the yoke and engaged at the the clearance of one of the inwardly-proother end with said lever.
jecting ends thereof, said clip formed, on In testimony whereof, I have signed this opposite sides thereof, with fingers, a switchspecification.
bar through which said fingers extend and NEIL G. HAYES.
