A non-circular core bar 5, is supplied of the approximate width of the plaftorni 2, havingdisposed thereupon units 6, having disposed therein an opening adapted to the passage of the core bar therethrough that prevents the rotation of the units 6 therearound, held in spaced relationship with each other by compression spring 7, adapted to seat within the individual units by a seating groove 8, disposed within the end of the unit and about the corebar.
Because of the necessityof having different strata of the materialbeing maintained through its transverse length, these bars are cut at a diagonal angle to that of the center line of the core bar, so that the same will contact with the contacting surfaces of the individual units continuously through the transverse length of the material being supported.
A pin stop 9, is disposed in the outer ends of the core bar against which the outer unit composing the compensating bar contacts when in the distended position, and as the material for support shrinks, due to the dehydrating effect, the individual units, composing compensating bar will move inwardly upon the core bar.
To further facilitate the movement of the lower bar upon the platform, I have provided a roller 10, supported upon a suitable journal 11, as shown in. Fig. 7, and wherein the roller is almost entirely housed within the base of the individual unit and central of its ends, A metal plate 12, may be disposed upon thc platform upon which the lower bar rests and upon which the roller engages. 7
While the form of mechanism herein shown and described is admirably adapted to fulfill the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that'it is not intended to con fine the invention to the one form of embodiment herein shown and described, as it is susceptible of embodiment in various forms all coming within the scope of the claims which follow:
