In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the pencil with outer casing in section to disclose the interior thereof.

V t L In propelling pencils of this kind, the lead carrier is frequently broken andis generally soldered to the inner tube so that both the lead carrier and the inner tube must necessarily be replaced. This invention is designed to eliminate 1 this defect by providing a construction whereln it is necessary to replace only the damaged parts.
It is also a special feature of the invention that the clip serves not only to connect the inner tube with the pencil casing, but also to connect the guide tube carrying detachably the pencil carrier with said inner tube, so that several'members of the pencil,

The magazine tube 14 thus attached to the guide tube 5, is adapted to be frictionally engaged by the tube a so that said guide tube can be rotated with the operatinghead. The magazine tube 1% can be formed in} tegral with the guide tube 5, if desired. The guide tube 5 carries thejlead' carrier i 8 which has a hook formed integral with its.

The inner 'tube 2 is provided 'withtwo perforationsor notches 10- at diametrically opposite sides of the upper part of the inter-v mediate portion and is connected with the guide tube 5 by the engagementof two legs 13 of a clip .12 with the notches 10 and the ani'iular groove 11 of the member 7, said groove and notches being brought into alinenient when said guide tube is inserted into "he inner tube. Thus the present invention provides a propelling pencil, the lead of which can be propelled by rotation of the operating head. Having thus described my invention,
1. 'A device otthe character described, comprising, in combination, an outer casing, anfinnertube within said casing, a guide tube withinsaid inner tube, and a removable :clip friction-ally engaging said tubes and casing thereby to hold the inner tube against rotation in the casing and to lock the guide tube against longitudinal movement while permitting rotation thereof relative to said inner tube.

A device of the character described, comprising, in combination, an outer casing, an inner tube within said casing and having a pair of diametrically opposite notches in its wall, a guide tube within said inner tube and provided with an annular; groove disposed in diametrical" alinement with said notches, and a removable clipdisposed between and adapted frictionally toengage the walls of said inner tube and easing thereby to prevent rotation of the tube relative to the casing, said clip having a pair of'legs projecting through said notches into engagement with said annular groove thereby to lock the guide tube against longitudinal movement wh le permitting rotation thereof relative tothe 1111161 tube.
