Be it known that I, HERBERT L. GLAZE, a lcitizen of the United States,'residing at Los Angeles, the lcounty ofLos Angeles, State of California, have invented a new and useful Fuel-Forming Die, which the followditlicult to handle in theiroriginal state, and

i Humphreys, Serial No. 697,454, filed March y 7, '1924,is described a die for the continuous production of cellulosic fuel b v'means of lwhich die it is rendered possible to take finely divided cellulosic material and, by
subjecting the same to heat and pressure,
and through a suitable extruding machine,

Another object of the invention is to provide a die for compressing such cellulosic material into fuel, which includes certain novel means for restricting the discharge of material from the cellulose extruding inachine, which restricting means may be readily varied to control the outlet from the machine and the resulting pressure applied upon the" cellulosic fuel.
yVarious further objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent from a description of a preferred form of fuel compressing'die embodying the invention, for
which purpose reference is made to the ac companying drawings in which the invention is shown in its preferred form.

The segmental choke members 8 are held together by a wire 12 extending through openings 13 in the enlarged portion 11 of the members 8, the wire 12 having one or more breaks, as indicated at 14 so that it may contract or expand to bring the members closer or further apart to vary the cylindrical discharge port formed thereby.

The operation of the die will nouY be describel ythe cellulosic material, `preferably heated, is fed kinto the member 2 by the extruding machine ofwhicli 3 is a aart, and caused to pass through the bore 4 thereof, Which initially forms the saine into a bar or stick of fuel. ln order to properly compress and solidify the same the outlet cf the bore 4l' is restricted by means of the segmental choke members 8, these members being brought togather a desired distance by screwing thel collar 19 into the `socket 1S through opera-y tion of the handle 27. It Willbe observed that any desired restriction of opening may be readily obtained by motion ofthe handle and this `forni `of restricting the clicking' means-permits av small force/upon the handle 27 tocause constriction of the discliargebore due to the reduced form of gearing provided by the combination of parts. rlhe restriction of the discharge bore causes the cellulosic material to be thoroughly coinpressed in the die and the material leaving the segmental choke blocks 8 is firmly bound into a bar or stick of fuel, which may bebroken or sawed int-ov desirable pieces for use in furnace, stove, orthelike.
lVhile the fuel forming die hereindescribed is Well suited for accomplishing the purposesiof this invention, it is tobc understocd vthat various modifications. may be made in details of construction Without dcparting from the spirit of the invention. This invention isof the scope set forth in the appended claims.

A fuel forming die comprising means providing a fuel forming bore, and segmental choke members operative to restrict the discharge from the bore, ther-segmental members having tapered outer surfaces, means. engaging vthe outer surfaces shiftable relative thereto toienpand or contract the segmental members and expandible .means `mounted with the segmental,members for holding the said memberstogether.
