BURGLAR ALARM.

VBe it known thatI I, FRANK J. Konan, a citizen of the United States, residing at l-lerminie, in the county of l/Vestinoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Burglar Alarms, of which the following is a specification. Y

This invention relates to burglar alarms especially designed for doors, windows and the like and has for an object the provision of an alarm which will be actuated by the opening of a door or window for the purpose of notifying persons in the vicinity of the unauthorized opening of such door or window, the device being useful in residences, outhouses and other buildings.

I Another object of the invention is the provision of a burglar alarm which when actuated willdiscliarge a plurality of cartridges, means being provided whereby the cartridges will be fired at intervals so as to `more definitely sound the alarm and frightw en an intruder.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a. burglar alarm of the above type which includes a trigger shaft capable of` i lateral movement out of the path of the triggers so that the trigger actuating means may be intentionallyr operated without discharging the cartridges.

`With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.

The alarm includes a casing 13 which `1s provided with a removable lid or cover 14, whereby access may be had tothe interior of the casing. In motiliting the casing the lid or cover 14 is provided at opposite endswith brackets 15', from one end of which extend ears 16 having open ings for the passage of screws or other fastening devices. From the outer ends of the brackets 15 extend spring tongues 17 whose extremities are provided with offset portions or shoulders 18 adapted for removable engagement with lugs 19 secured to the casing 13. The casing may thus be inserted within the cover 14 and held in place by the tongue 17. vided with a gauze or wire covered sight opening 20. l

Located within the casing 13 is` a block 21 which is provided with a plurality of spaced slots 22, while pivotally mountedl beneath this blockupon a shaft 23 is a plurality of hammers 24. These hammers move within the slots 22; and are providedV with firing pins or points 25.

Mounted upon the block 21 is a cartridgev holder which includes a transversely L- shaped member 26. This member is removably held in place by means of screws or other fastening devices 27 which extend. through openings 28 provided in the inember 26 and engage the block 21. The member 26 is further provided with spaced cartridge receiving openings 29` which are adapted to hold blank cartridges 30. The member `26 may thus be removed and the cartridges inserted within the opening 29 and the said member thereafter replaced. The cartridge holder further includes a pla-te 31 which is provided with spaced Vopenings 32 adapted to register with the openings 29. In order to set the alarm from the outside of a. door as in the case Where the alarm is usedupen a hen house, there is provided an angle plate 4t2 having a slot Li3 therein. This platev is secured to the door frame in such position that one of the ears 1G will enter the slot 43, while the casing is capable of pivotal movement upon the screw which passes through the other ear.l By attach ing astring to the free ear 16 and passing the same through an opening upon the outside of the building, the door may' be closed and the device lowered so that the free ear 15 Will enter the slot 4:3 and the device Will be held in place for use.
