The invention relates to electric switch of the toggle type.
lhe ohject of the present invention. is to provide it simple practical and eilicient single or double pole switch of the toggle type of strong, durshle end comparatively in expensive con truction equipped with means odepted to produce o positive snep motion and cspehle of maintaining the switch blades firmly in each position of the same.
Another object of the invention is to provide an electric switch of this character of the standard type adapted to be operated with either e lever or push louttons.

Spacing members 17 which are preferably in the form of washers or rings are arranged on the said fastening devices 11 and are interposed between the inner insulating plate and the swinging yoke to offset the switch blades from the side of the yoke and arrange the switch blades in proper position to cooperate with the stationary switch contacts. The stationary switch contacts are arranged to fitb'etween the terminals of the switch blades and are beveled at their rear and front. edges respectively, so as to enter readily between the terminals of the switch blades whichare slightly spaced as shown for this purpose. The stationary front switch contact 13 consists of a projecting arm formed integral with an approximately L-shaped plate 18 which is secured by screws 19 orother suitable fastening devices to the insulating block in a suitable recess or depression thereof and the said plate 18 is provided at the adjacent side of the switch block with a binding screw 20 and it has a projecting portion 21 to cooperate with the binding screw for enabling an end of a wire to be securely fastened to the binding terminal formed by the side portion of the plate 18 and the binding screw 20. The rear stationary switch contact 14 consists of an approximately L-shaped arm formed integral with an L-shaped plate 22 secured by screws 23 to the insulating block ina recess or depression of the same and provided at the side of the insulating block with a binding screw' 24 and constituting a binding terminal. The plate 22 is also provided with projecting portions 25 to cooperate with the binding screw in holding an end of a wire. tacts are shown at one side of the insulating block but may of course, be provided at both sides of the same when the swinging yoke is equipped at both of its sides with switch blades.
The supporting bracket is provlded at the apexes of the sides with transversely alined perforations for the reception of a pivot pin 26 on which is mounted an operatlng lever 27 composed of a body portion 28 and a plate or member 29 havin which a handle 31 of bakehte or other suitable material is molded. The body'portion is'approximately Ushaped and is composed of spaced approximately triangular sides and a connecting portion having recesses 32 at its'ends to receive lugs 33 of the plate 29.- The ends of the plate29 are reduced and are The stationary switch cona shank 30 on bent inwardly at right angles to form the said lugs and the latter are provided with alined perforations 34 through which passes a pin 35 adapted to perform the double function of securing the two sections or members of the operating lever together and afford means for attaching push buttons to the operating lever when it is desired to operate the switch by means'of push buttons as illustrated in Figs. 9 to 13 inclusive. The shank 30 is, of course, omitted when the push buttons are employed. The body portion of the lever is provided at its sides adjacent the plate 29 with ears 36 through which passes the pivot pin 26 and the plate 29 is provided at the pivot pin with a recess to clear the same. The plate and the shank may be conveniently constructed of a single strip of metal doubled centrally to provide a shank of two plies or thicknesses and the plies or thicknesses are then bent outwardly at right angles to the shank to formthe plate. The plate may, of course, be formed of a single flat piece of material when the shank is notrequired. The sides of the U-shapcd body portion are provided with open bearing recesses 37 for the reception of laterally extending pivots or trunnions 38 of a rocking plate 39 through which extends a guide bar or member 40 having a head 41 of approximately T-shape -with' its central arm extending outwardly and arranged in a slot 42 in the transverse connecting portion of the pivoted switch blade carrying yoke. The bar 40 receives a coiled spring 43 which is interposed be tween the head 41 and the rocking plate 39 andthrusts against the said head and the said plate. The spring throws the swinging yoke to one side or the other as soon as the operating lever carries the spring beyond the dead center and the parts provide a toggle structure and produce a snap motion for positively carrying the switch blades to one position or the other according to the direction in which the lever is operated. The inner end of the bar 40 is split and is spread as shown at 44 after being passed through the rocking plate for securing the spring on the bar 40.
The operating arm or handle 31 extends through a slot 45 in a switch plate or panel 46 which is secured to a wall in the usual manner. Thebakelite insulating block is provided at its ends with metal lugs or cars 47 adapted to receive screws or other suitable fastening devices for securing the switch in the said box.
When push buttons 48'are employed as illustrated in Figs. 9 to 13- inclusive of the drawings they extend through openings 49 in a. switch plate 50 and they are pivoted by rivets 51 or other suitable fastening devices to ears 52 of collars 53 which are secured on the projecting terminals of the pin 35.

An electric switch including a support, a switch blade carrying yoke pivoted to the support, a lever composed of a lower portion having spaced sides and a connecting top portion and'provided thereat with terminal recesses and having transversely alined perforations located between the terminal recesses, an upper portion fitted against the top of the lower portion of the lever and provided with a transverse recess located at the said perforations, a transverse oivot passing through the perforations and an ranged in a transverse recess of tee upper portion of the lever and pivoting the latter to the support, a pin piercing the lugs and passing beneath the transverse pivot and spring toggle means connecting the yolre with the lower portion of the lever.

An electric switch including a support, a switch blade carrying yoke pivoted to the lid support, a lever composed of an appro rimately inverted ll-shaped lower ortion, an upper portion fitted against the Lower por tion, and having terminal lugs interlocked therewith andprojecting below the top of the lower portion, said upper portion conof metal centrally means for engaging the said lugs to secure the upper and lower portions of the lever in their interlocked relation, means for pivotin, the lever to the support and spring togg e means connecting the lower portion of the lever with the yolre to produce the snap action.
