UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LAWRENCE A. BURKE AND THOMAS E. LITTLETON, 0F MONTELLO, MASSACHUSETTS.
Application filed March 14, 1924. Serial No. 699,276.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LAWRENCE A. BURKE and THoMAs F. Lrr'rLn'roN, citizens of the United States, residing at Montello, in' the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods of Side Lasting Boots, Shoes, and Slippers; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved method of side lasting boots, shoes and slippers and more particularly to a method which will utilize the sectional interlocking inner sole in the side lasting process.
An object of the invention is to provide a new and improved method of side lasting boots, shoes and slippers, which consists of forming an upper with an inwardly turned flange adjacent the lower portions thereof, forming a sectional insole with interlocking adjoining edges, and attaching the outer edges of the insole sections to the flange, after which the said sections are brought together and interlocked.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of our application:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of our im proved interlocking sectional insole.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of our improved interlocking sectional insole, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the vamp and insole, the same being positioned upon a form or last, and showing the interlocking attaching edges of the said inner sole.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and accompanying drawings to designate the corresponding parts.
In carrying out our invention We provide gether at S.
The method of side lasting the boots, shoes and slippers. as before mentioned, comprises the forming of an upper with an inwardly turned flange adjacent its lower edge, forming a sectional insole with 5 interlocking dovetailed adjoining edges, at-
taching the outer edges of the insole sections to theflange, and placing the welt and upper on a form or last 9, top downward] whereupon the sections of the insole may be drawn inwardly and locked or fastened as desired over the bottom of thelast or form.
The outer sole may then be suitably attached to the inner sole, welt and upper,
thereby completing the formation of the shoe.
Many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
VVe claim:
A method of side lasting boots, shoes and slippers consisting of forming an upper with an inwardly turned flange adjacent the lower edge thereof, forming a sectional in sole with interlockable adjoining edges, attaching the outer edges of the insole sections to said flange, and locking the adjoining edges of said insole sections together.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures.
LAWRENCE A. BURKE. THOMAS F. LITTLETON.
