LOCOMOTIVE FRAME.
Application filed January frame which is carried by the driving wheels` and Serves as a support for ,the body of the locomotive.
The object of my invention is to provide a locomotive bed, the side frames of which, in-
cluding thecustomary parts, are formed integrally with aboiler Support upon the front' eng. and with a foot or deck plate on the rear The drawings illustrate the adaptation of my invention to a switching type of locomo- -tive referred to in Whytes System or" Locomotive Classification as 060. It is to be understood though that my invention is applicable to` any type or Size locomotive bed used for Switching or other purposes.
Another object of my invention is to provide a double drawbar pocket in the foot plate. This pocket is also tobean integral part of the frame.
In the ydrawings which indicate a. preferred embodiment of my invention,
' Figurel l is a side view of a `locomotive bed or frame. l
Figure 2*,is a top plan view of one-half of the locomotiveframef i Figure 3 is a rear view showing the double n drawbar pockets.
Figure 4 lis a front view, partly in section, showing the front end boiler support.
The numeral l in the drawings indicates one of a v pair of locomotive side frames formed integrally with andvconnected by various cross members 2. Side frames 1 are provided with driving box pedestals 3 and brake hanger lugs t'which are also formed integrally with the main body of the' locomotive bed. The cradle forming members 5 are integral with ther various other parts and extend rearwardly of the rear pedestal boxes 3. Foot plate-6 is integral withand joins together cradle forming members 5 at their rearward ends. Double drawbar 'pockets 7 and 8 are formed integral with foot plates 6,

making a one-piece construction of the rear end of the locomotive bed.v Y
At the front end of the locomotive bed is a boilei supporting member 9 which is formed integrally with the side Jframes l. Included in this boiler Supporting member are an exhaust steam passageway 10 and a llvesteam passageway 1l.-
All pf the above-mentioned vparts are formed in one piece which prevents relative movement of the various parts and makes a substantially Stronger locomotive bed than one which is assembled and uses the same amount of steel. It is a corollary that a locomotive bed cast in my improved method will be lighter in Weight than one of correponding strength made of a plurality of parts which are assembled by bolts, rivets and the like, because of the fact that it is made of one piece. The cost of manufacturing my improved locomotive bed is much cheaper than that of the ordinary form because there is no necessity of assembling the parts. By avoiding this I also avoid a large amount of machine work which would be a necessary operation on the crude castings to put them in condition for assembly.
I claim:
l. In combination withV a vlocomotive frame, a boiler support formed integral therewith.
2. An integral locomotive frame including a front end boilersupport and a foot plate.
3. A locomotive frame and a foot plate having a drawbar pocket therein formed integral with said frame.
4. A llocomotive frame and a yfoot plate having a double drawbar pocket therein formed integral with said frame.
5. An integral locomotive frame including driving box pedestals, brake hanger lugs, a front end boiler Support, and a foot plate having a drawbar pocket therein. l
6. An integral locomotive frame including driving box pedestals, brake hanger lugs, a
`front end boiler support; and a foot plateV 9. A locomotive frame havin `formed. in-y 11. A locomotive frame com rising two 10 tegral therewith a front end boller support, spaced members, :a front end boi er support, sald boiler support being provided with an and a foot plate', said foot plate and boiler exhaust steam passageway and a live steam support being formed with and joining said 5 passageway. spaced members; i j ,A
10. A locomotive frame comprising two In'testimony whereof I hereunto aix my 15 spaced members and a front end boiler supsignature this 6th day of January, 1925.y port formed with and joining saidvspaced members. WILLIAM O. ASHE.
