Description

Patented Feb. 16, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
EDITH HARTEAU, OF SOBIESKI, 'WISCDNSIN;
FIRE PREVENTER.
Application filed March 9, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDITH HAn'rnAU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sobieski, in the county of Oconto and State 6 of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Fire Preventer, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to prevent sparks and cinder-s in stoves and furnaces 10 from going up the chimney, from which there are three principal dangers.
1. In case of a defective chimney, that is, when mortar falls away from the chim ney leaving crevices between the bricks 5 where sparks pass through into the attic,
which is a very common cause of fire.
lVhen sparks ignite soot causing overheat-ed chimneys and chimney fires. The fire then starts in the lower part of the roof.
3. lVhen sparks from the chimney fall on the roof outside igniting the roof.
The number of fires from this source causes an immense loss of property and lives, as the attic and roof are usually in flames 25 before the occupants of the building are aware of it, which is especially dangerous at night in the rural districts where. there is absolutely no tire protection.
()no form of the invention is illustrated 30 in the accon'ipanying drawing, in which Fig ure 1 is a vertical section of the entire device.
Part 1 is of screen twelve spaces to the Serial No. 14,337.
lineal inch, thirty gauge wire, sixteen inches in height, tapering from 2 inches in diameter at top which is open, to six inches at the bottom where it is joined to sheet iron band 2 that fits securely inside of the Stovepipe 9. No. 3 at top is a narrow band of sheet iron joined to part 1.
The cap t is made of sheet iron held in place by four supports 5.
The rod (5 has a flat head 7, at one end and passes through cap at, and is threaded at the otherend for the reception of nut 8, which holds it securely inside of the stovepipe.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 disclosing my invention.
As the sparks rise in the'preventer and come in contact with 1 and cap 4 they are extinguished and fall back into the stove.
I claim:
The combination in a separator, of a conical perforate member, a cylindrical imperforate member depending therefrom, a conical cap member extending above said perforate member and spaced therefrom, spacing members including supports extending from the cap member to said perforate men'iber and from which supports said per forate member depends,'and means extending through said cap member to hold the separator in position.
