B. KNATvoLD cLoTHEsLINE REEL Filed Feb. 1o, 1925 jg/'A Patented trieb. 9, 1926.
UNITED STATES BURT KNATVOLD, OF ALBERT LEA, MINNESOTA.
GLOTI'IESLINE REEL.
Application filed February 10, 1925. Serial No. 8,300.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, BURT KNA'rvoLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albert Lea, in the county of Freeborn and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Clothesline Reel, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved clothes line reel, although it is adaptable for winding and reeling any other analogous flexible elements.
It is the principal object to generally improve upon devices of this class b y providing one of comparative simplicity and durability which is such in construction as to render it highly desirable for the particular use specified, practical in construction, and inexpensive to both the manufacturer and the user. Y v
Briefly, the improved reel is simply composed of two parts, yoke includmg a carrying handle, and a reel rotatably mounted between the arms of the yoke and in the form of a frame of flat formation for winding comparatively large convolutlons of the line thereon at each revolution of the frame,
there being a crank handle provided for rotating the frame.
The features and advantages derived from the particular construction employed will become apparent from the following description and drawing.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same: f
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a reel constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof showing the reeling frame disposed at right angles to the carrying yoke.
In the drawing, the reference character 1 designates generally the yoke which is of U-shaped formation. The yoke is preferably forined from a single length of wire, the arms of which are bent at their free ends to provide bearing yeyes 2, the intermediate or'bight portion being twisted at, 3 and looped at 4 to `provide a carrying handle. Disposed between the arms of the yoke for relative rotation is the substantially iat and elongated reeling frame 5. The frame, like the yoke, is made up from a single length of wire. One end portion of the wire is designated at 6, the free eX- tremity thereof being coiled as at 7 to serve a purpose to be hereinafter described. The wire is then bent to provide an arcuate seat or bend 9 for the rope, it being then extended into parallelism with the portion 6 as indicated at 9 and being coiled at 10 opposite the aforesaid coil 7, extended upwardly as at 11 in Figure 1, formed in an arcuate bend as at 12 and extended downwardly at 13, formed into a retaining loop at 14 and extended at right angles through the bearing eyes 2 and coils 7 and 10 to form a mounting shaft 15. The free end portion of the shaft is bent to provide a crank handle 16, the hand grip of which is twisted as at 17 to reinforce it. Obviously, the rope is wound and confined in the bends or seats 8 and 12 respectively of the so-oa-lled reeling frame 5. During the reeling operation the yoke 1 is held by the handle 4 if desired, or the same is anchored upon a hook on a supporting postor the like.
It is thought that the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing will enable persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates to obtain a clear understanding of the same. Therefore, a more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.
Although I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that minor changes coming within the field of invention and claim may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is A reeling frame formed from a single strand of wire bent to provide ka straight side portion having its free end looped to forni an eye, its other end merging into an arcuate end portion, said arcuate portion merging into a second straight side portion disposed in parallelism with the first named straight portion and terminating in a loop forming a second eye, said ioop merging into a third straight side forming portion alignment with the rst named straight por- Whioh is in substantial alignmentwith the tion, said fourth straight portion merging 10 second straight portion, said third straight into a shaft'extendingv through the eyes and portion merging into a second arcuate end disposed at right angles to the four straight portion, said second arcuate portion mergportions and terminating in a crank.
ing into a fourth straight side portion dis- In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature. posed in parallelism with the second and third straight portions and in substantial BURT KNATVOLD.
