TRACK LINER.
Application filed August 6,1925. Serial No. 48,599.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Valkerton, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Track L1ners, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to track liners or acks.
An object of the invention is to provide an instrument for adjusting a rail laterally.
Another object of the invention is toprovide a device which can be operated to accomplish the lifting and proper positioning of the track rail with a minimum of labor and effort.
Still another object is to provide a device for this purpose which shall have a movable foot, by which shifting of the rail will be facilitated, and which will eliminate the necessity of providing prongs or other means on the base plate to prevent its slipping on the ballast and sliding out from under the rail.
A further object of the invention is to provide such a device which has a lifting railengaging lever which has its forward end associated with a fixed pivot.
A still further object of the invention is .to provide a fixed pivot for the forward end of the rail-engaging and lifting lever, in combination with a frame member or support for said pivot, the support or frame member being fixed and of wedge-shaped formation for the purpose of assisting in placing the liner in operation.
Other and further objects of the invention, including the provision of a device which is an improvement on my two prior patents for track liners, No. 1,513,724, dated October 28, 1924, and No. 1,515,928, dated November 18, 1924, will appear from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, which illustrate, by way of example, a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
The invention includes a bed plate, an operating lever provided with a slidable foot engaging said bed plate, and having pivoted to it intermediate its ends a rail-engaging and lifting lever which has its forward and lower end pivoted, said pivot being in fixed relation with said bed plate.

Referring in detail to the drawings, the reference numeral 11 indicates a base or bed plate which is provided at one end with foot guiding and retaining members 12 and 13, which, in the form herein illustrated, are shown as being flat metallic plates secured by bolts 14 or other suitable means to the base plate and arranged to overlap and guide the movable foot 16 of the operating lever. Stop bolts 17 may be provided at the limits of the forward and rearward movement of the sliding foot 16 in order to limit it in its extreme positions.
The slidable foot 16 is pivoted by a bolt 19 or other suitable means to the lower end of the operating lever 20, which is herein shown as having its upper end 21 formed as a socket for the reception of a lifting bar 23, which may be inserted in the socket for the purpose of providing a longer handle and thus increasing the effective lever length.
Pivotally associated with the operating lever is one end of a rail-engaging lever 18, which is herein shown as consisting of two spaced rail-engaging plates pivoted to the operating lever 20 by a through bolt 24 or other suitable means.
The forward and lower ends of the rail-engaging plates f-orming the rail lifting lever are pivotally associated with the base plate by a pivot bolt 26 or other suitable means fixedly associated with said base plate preferably by means of an integral wedgeshaped member 27, through which said piv- 0t bolt 26 passes. The wedge-shaped member 27 may be made separately as shown in Fig. 5, and may be secured to said base plate in fixed position by means of securing bolts 30, or by rivets or any other suitable means operable to secure said pivot bolt 26 111 fixed relation withsaid base plate.
