UNITED STATES ORA IB. ANDERSON, OF DEADWOOD, SOUTH DAKOTA.
LAUNDRY DEVICE.
Application filed April 11, 1924. Serial No. 705,864.
To all whomft muy cof/wcm.'
Be it known that I, ORA B. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Deadwood, in the county of Lawrence, State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Laundry Devices; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inventiomlsuch as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
rl'his invention relates to new and useful improvements in laundry devices, and particularly to devices for conveying. clothes to and from the yard.
One object of the invention is to provide a vehicle on which a clot-hes basket is supported, and which is adapted to contain the wet clothes to be carried into the yard for Y hanging on the line, and for receiving the dried clothes from the line. to be conveyed into the house.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which includes an ironing board slidably supporte-d for use in connection with the basket, when the device has been taken into the house.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which includes supporting legs for nuiintaining thc device against upsetting while being used, such legs being foldable beneath the vehicle.
(wither objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
ln the. drawing:
uFigure 1 is a side elevation of a laundry device made in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical transverse sectional view through the bed frame ofthe device, showing the ironing board within the channels of the frame.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the device, with the basket removed, and the ironing board extended.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a pair of parallel channel bars having the open sides of their channels directed toward each other. Slidable in the channels are the longeredge portions of the ironing board 11, the padding and covering 12 and 13 thereof being secured to the face of the board a short distance in-I wardly of the longer edges to permit the board to freely slide within the channels. Secured to and extending between the ends of the channel `bars 10 are the bracing and spacing' strips 12, while a downwardly oftset strip is secured to and extends between the intermediate portions of the channel bars, at 12. The board has a leg 13 movably connected to the lower side of its outer end, and this leg is adapted to rest on the offset strip, when folded against the bottom of the board, and the board is slipped into the channels, and to support the outer end of the board when withdrawn. Pivotally connected to each of the transverse strips 12, and depending therefrom, is a support which comprises a pair of legs 14., and the transverse bar 15, the lower ends of the legs 111 being adapted to rest on the ground or floor to support the device in horizontal position. Secured to and extending downwardly and inwardly from the strips 12 are the inclined braces 16, and at the lower ends of said braces are secured the bearings 17 for the axle 18. On the ends of the axle are the wheels 19, which may have rubber tires 20, if desired.
Disposed on the channel bars 10, and secured thereto, is the clothes basket 21, which has the handles 22 at the ends thereof and a receptacle a?) on each si-de for the reception of clothes pins.
Carried by the axle V1S are hooks 24 which are arranged to engage with the eyes or loops 25, carried by the bars 15, so that the supporting leg frames may be swung against the axle, and thereby permit the easy wheeling of the carriage to and from the yard, and around the yard.
What is claimed is:
An ironing board stand comprising a pair of parallel channel members, the open'sides of the channels being directed toward cach other, an ironing boar-d having its longer edges slidable in the channels of said channel members, transversely extending offset spacing bars between the channel members, a ruiming gear including wheels supporting the channel members, and an axle carrying the wheels, and movable supporting legs on the ends of the channels.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
