Description
Jan. 26 1926.
A. F. scHLPPl HOLDER Fi'led April g5, 1924 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Jan. 26, 1926.
UNJTED STATE AIDOIIE'H F. SCHLPPI, 0F CURWENSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
HOLDER.
Application filed April 23, 1924. Seria1 No. 708,527.
`To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ADOLPH F. SGHLPPI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Curwensville, in the county of Clearfield and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a dental X-ray film holder which is very simple in construction, and practically indestructible with ordinary use.
The chief characteristic of this invention resides in providing a holder with which the film can be easily and quickly associated, the holder being further utilized to maintain the lm in proper position within the mouth by arranging the holder in a .position to be clamped between the teeth.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood, when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and where- 1n:
Figure 1 is a view of the holder showing the X-ray film, by dotted lines, associated therewith.
Figure 2 is a View taken at right angles to Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an elevation of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a detail View of the frame.
Figure 5 is a similar view of the wedge shaped slide.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the switch.
The device forming the subject matter of this invention includes a frame 1() which is tapered as shown, one side of the frame terminating to provide a flange l1 arranged at a right angle to the body of the frame, while the opposite side of said body portion is provided with a flange 12 arranged parallel therewith mounted to slide between the flanges 11 and 12 is a wedge 13 which is held operatively associated with the frame by a slot and pin connection. The wedge is provided with a longitudinal slot 14 which operates beneath the parallel flange 12, the slot receiving a pin 1 5 which connects the flange and body portion as shown. The opposite side of the wedge cooperates with the fiange 11 for clamping the X-ray film 16 between said parts as illustrated in Figure 1, so that the film can be conveniently placed within the mouth of the patient, the holder constituting a linger hold for this purpose. In addition to this use, the holder in its entirety is further utilized to support the film in proper relation to the particular tooth to be X-rayed, and this is accomplished by arranging the holder between the teeth for the purpose just stated. It is desired to have it understood that the component parts of the holder can be constructed from any suitable material without departing from the spirit of the invention, but is preferably composed of the combination of metal and vulcanite, gutta-percha or other material of the character to protect the surface of the teeth from being injured, while biting down or clamping the holder between the teeth for the purpose just mentioned. If desired the frame can be formed with a slightly raised portion somewhat roughened to prevent slipping of the fingers or trouble incident to the use of the holder, or in other words to prevent movement of the wedge with relation to the frame. The holder can be used for making a radiograph of any tooth orteeth, either upper or lower.
While it isbelieved that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will bey readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
1. A dental X-ray film holder comprising a wedge shaped frame including a fiange, and a wedge slidably associated with said frame and adapted to clamp said film therebetween and said flange.
2. An X-ray film holder comprising a frame tapered toward one end and having its opposite sides formed with right angularly disposed flanges, and a wedge fitted in said frame for sliding movement, and having one side movable beneath the .adjacent flange, the. other side of said wedge cooperating with the other flange for clamping the film therebetween for the purpose specified.
3. A dental X-ray film holder comprising a frame tapered from one end to the other, a Wedge sldable in said fram@ and 0001961'- ating Withthelatter to clamp the Iilm-thered between; and* Said holder being adapted t0 be arranged between the teeth of the patient to support the film-improper position for use.
4. A dental X-ray ilrn holder comprising.V
metallic traine tapered toward one end, a metallic wedge slidable ontlie raneand'e'o# operating with the latter to clamp the 10 therebetweena a slot anol"pin"coneetiorrbe'- ADoLPI-r Fa' seHnrP, 11n-s.
