Description

l. T. TRDWBRIDEE.
Tuy-Pistols.v 510.157,10). Patented Nov. 24,1874i Www-:5555- INVENTU NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES T. TROWBRIDGE, OF AKRON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOV PISTOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l 57,109., dated November 24, 1874; application led September 12, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES T.TRoWBRIDGE, of Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Guns 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this speciiication.
My invention relates to an improvement in toy guns for shooting matches; and consists in the application of a revolving trigger, having a small friction-plate attached to the upper end of its pivot, which plate rotates in the rear end of the barrel just underneath the head of the match, as it is held by the hammer, and by frictional contact With the match causes it to explode.
The accompanying drawing represents my invention.
(11y represents an ordinary toy pistol, which has a slot, b, cut vertically through it just in the rear ofthe barrel, in which slot is pivoted the lever d. This lever has a cock or hammer, e, provided With a nipple, g, formed upon its upper end, While its lower one forms a lever, h, by means of which the hammer is operated. Through the rear end of the barrel is formed an opening or hole, t, through which the nipple on the hammer projects for the purpose of holding the match in position for firing, the match being inserted head foremost through the muzzle of the barrel. Passing through the under side of the rear end of the barrel is a small shaft, k, upon the upper end of which is attached a small friction-plate, m, which rotates just under the head of the match as it is held by the hammer, While upon its lower end is attached a revolving trigger, n, by Which the friction-plate is turned.
The operation is as follows: The hammer is elevated by moving the lower end or handle of the lever forward; the match is then introduced, head foremost, into the barrel, and held by its head firmly' between the hammer and friction-plate by pressing back the lever 5 then, by suddenly turning the trigger with a slight jerk, the match will be projected from the barrel, accompanied by the report of the eXploslon.
I claim as my invention- In a toy gun or pistol for shooting parlormatches, or equivalent detonate, the rotating trigger with the friction-plate attachedV to its upper end, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal thisv 8th day of September, 1874.
JAMES T. TROWBRIDGE. [,L. sj
