The structure just described'is well known in thevart and forms no part of our present invention.
. Our invention Vrelates* to the means for tilting the stem 22. Secured to theextension 23 is a cylindrical housing 27 having a head 28 provided with a discharge chamber V29. The discharge chamber is connected by a tube `BOto extension 8 so asfto communicate with duct V9. An inlet is provided'in the head 28 anda tube 31 connected thereto. A fitting 32 connects'tube 31 and a tube 33 nu UU which leads to the inlet of the fiush valve. Fitting 32 contains a needle valve 34 for controlling the How of liquid in the tubes 33 and 31 to the head. ldounted Within the housing 27 and secured to the head is a sylphon 235 arranged so thatV when it is expanded it will engage the head 26 and move stein 2e. ln retracted position or when collapsed which is the normal position of 1 J- the sylphon, the latter is out of engagement with head 2G and the stem is permitted to remain in position such that the valve disc 21 may scat.
The device operates in the following manner: Water enters the valve through inlet and passes upwardly through duct 7 and passage 1T to the space above diaphragm 15. While disc 21 is seated, the liquid is within a closed relief chamber, forcing diaphragm downwardly so that it seats upon tubular seat 11 and closes the passage for water to the outlet. Water from the inlet also passes through tube 33, past valve 84 and through tube 31 to the sylphon. The escape of water from the sylphon is prevented, as tube communicates with the relief chamber above diaphragm 15. The sylphon is then caused to expand, eventually engaging the head 26 and stem 24 and moving the latter inwardly. Stem 24 engages stem 22 and unseats the valve 21, opening the relief chamber to the discharge. Water then discharges from the relief chamber, and the pressure of the water below diaphragm 15 causes the latter to raise from seat 11 and open the inlet 5 to the discharge outlet 12, permitting the free passage of water. Upon the relief chamber being open to the discharge, the sylphon is relieved of its pressure, being in Communication therewith, and immediately contracts allowing stem 2st to be retracted. Valve 21 then rights itself and seats. l/Vater begins to slowly enter the relief chamber through duct 7 and passage 17, moving the diaphragm 15 downwardly until it eventually seats on tubular seat 11 and closes the discharge ports stopping the flowV of water. The outflow of water from the sylphon is also stopped, and water enters the latter from the inlet through tubes 33 and 31,'
again expanding the sylphon and eventually tripping the relief valve, whereupon the operation is again performed.
Uur invention resides in the tripping mechanism, which may be applied to any flush valve or to other devices. The sylphon and associated parts form a device hereinafter broadly referred to as a motor.
What we claim is:
1. A device of the character described adapted to be connected to a hydraulically actuated iush valve having a relief chamber and mechanically operated means t0 release liuid therefrom so as to operate said valve including a slidable actuating stem, said device comprising an expansible chamber motor, a fluid inlet for said motor connected to the inlet of said valve and arranged to permit the passage of fluid slowly to said motor, said motor having a fluid outlet connected to said relief chamber, said stem being disposed to be engaged and opcrated at an end of the travel of the motor.
A device o1' the character described comprising a sylphon motor having a fluid inlet connected to a source of fluid supply under pressure, a needle valve arranged to control the passage of fluid through said inlet, said motor having a luid outlet, relief means for said outlet including an actuating stem, a check valve for preventing the back flow of liquid through said outlet, said stem being disposed in the path of travel of said motor so as to be operated thereby.
8. The combination with a flush valve having a relief chamber, a relief tilting valve and a slidable stem for actuating said valve of a control device comprising an expansible chamber motor having a constricted fluid inlet connected to the source of fluid supply under pressure arranged to permit the passage of fluid slowly, said motor being provided with a fluid outlet connected to said relief chamber, said stem being' disposed to be engaged and operated by the motor at the end of its travel.
