` V f WILLIAM n. JARDINE; F Pn'ILADnLBHIAQfrENnsYLVAlvra.- sf l ,VENTImaren.
the city and county of Philadelphia, State y of Pennsylvania, have inventedy a new and Vuseful Ventilator, of which the-following is al specification.
My invention consists of an improvement vband l which is' open at the top and botin a ventilator embodying an-i'nletv fluev at the base, aclosed cap at the top, vand andintermediate cap, the latter having in its apex a passagefor thel exit of air, smoke, etc., from said iiue and surrounding bands, through which atmosphericy air may ascend,
said ands thus effectively causing the discharge of air through said passagethe 1nvention consisting also in forming said passage of a vastly less 'diameter'than that of` said Yinlet flue whereby the air fromf the latter is forcibly ejected through said "passage, andan increased draft createdl in the ventilator.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the. accompanying drawing, but the jimn portant "instrumentalitiesfthereof lmay* be varied 'and so itis to be understood thatthef invention is notlimited to thespeciflc de-y tails shownanddescribed, as `long 'as they "JQ are within the'scope of jthe claim;l '1 Figure 1 represents atop planview of a ventilator embodying my invention. g
y Figure 2 represents' a-central, vertical section online 2-"2 Figurepl. p i f A Figure 3 lrepresents abottomplan view thereof.
Y. Similar A'numerals rof reference indicate:
@by the braces 5 which are bolted or otherf wise secured thereto', said braces beingl also bolted or otherwise secured to the standards.
.2 as at 6. Surrounding said assage being inf communication with tor the sani'e `being ada ted to be connected,-
li ating shaft;k v'Rivetopen at the top and bottom and is sustained $119 base e ist tha Xtr t 'circumferential'. i 7 which is 'open at the top',- and"b`o"tt'om"and*secured by 'the Vbraces 8 to said band et and by the braces 9 to the standards 2, itbeing evident that by these means the cap 3 the band l and band T ,are sustained firmlyr in position.
Within the band 7 about the bottom thereof-iis the lower circumferential cylinder or tomv and is supported by lbraces 11Yto ythe standards 2', said d braces'beingbolted vor otherwise ysecan-:ed to said -band andk standards, thus firmly sustaining said band 10y in t position, itbeing seen'that'thereis employed alplurality of bands withinthe exterior band, the air vbeing adapted to pass upward# ly through"'all 'of the bands and thus there is createdia draft2 in the'ventilator:
Intermediate Vof the 'bands supplemental conical cap l2` which'is` riveted The apex of the'caV the'vpassage lfr t e exit of air of an apartment, smoke, fumesfetc.,l that may enterl the fiue`1, itbeing seenthat the diameter of said passage vis contracted sayfone ana. 1o is the Vor otherwise. connected with the bra`ces'v9V y and'standardsv 2, as at 18 and 14;. 'Y y,
12 is open form-ingk f halfjof thatof vsaid flue 1,:and'this vcauses "f In order to cause thepo'rtions 16 ofv the :a forcible draftl of airthrou'gh said passage f i' Afrom the bands 10 and 7, lwhereby the effikciency of theyventilator is, vastly increased."
es" l standards 2 within the V,cap l2 toconform to the conical form of the latter saidportions are. deflected angul'arlylinwardly from the adjacent vertical lengthsof said standards A2,7a's most plainly shown inl Figure 2'. v l
il, .Itwill be seen when-.the air from anjapart-- 1 Atmospheric air enters -the',bands'dl() and i ment, fsmoke,f etc'.,"enters the fluelfit risesfy l V 7 and reaches the 'cap 12 whenrit iningles with the currents from the flue 1 ,and for cibly discharges them through the-passage* 15 to thecap 3. 7 Atmospheric' air alsoenters the" band 4 and creates forcible suction around the said .passage 1,5 and generally throughout the bodyA of the devicewhereby effective ventilation is occasioned( YThe diameters of the caps are greater than the diameter of the base flue, whereby rain, sleet, ete., is prevented from dropping through the Ventilator into said base flue.
Having thus described my invention, what I Claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is z- In a Ventilator, a base flue, a top cap, an intermediate cap of a diameter larger than said top cap and having a central passage therethrough, standards inwardly inclined at their middle portions connecting said base cap, a relatively wide band surrounding said i first mentioned bands and spaced therefrom,
vand braces extended from said standards and connected with all of said bands for supporting the latter.
