BOILER STAND.
Application filed March 16, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAWRENCE Donna, a citizen of the United States, residing at Silverton, in the county of Marion, State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Boiler Stand; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to boiler stands particularly of the type set forth in United States Patent No. 1,523,058 issued January 13, 1925 to Lawrence Doerr, and has for its object to provide the upper end of the stand with means for engaging the bottom of the boiler of a relatively large area for thoroughly bracing the boiler and preventing buckling or bending of the bottom of the boiler when lateral force is applied to the boiler.
A further object is to provide a boiler stand comprising a base having an upright provided with a collar adjacent its upper end but spaced therefrom, and the upper end threaded into the bottom of the boiler, a bushing resting on said flange and on which bushing is threaded a concave disc, the edge of which engages the bottom of the boiler and braces the same over a relatively wide area.
A further object is to loosely mount the bushing on the nozzle fitting whereby during the tightening of the bushing in the bottom engaging brace member with the nozzle threaded in the bottom of the boiler, the device will accomodate itself to the bottom of the boiler incident to irregularities thereof during the manufacture.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the base of the stand, and 2 an upright carried thereby, and to the upper end of said upright is detachably connected a fitting 3 to which is connected a water supply pipe 4 in communication with the port 5 through the fitting and a discharge pipe 6 in communication with a discharge passage 7 through the fitting, substantially as set forth in the patent above referred to. It has been found under ordinary connections at present used between the fitting 3 and the bottom 8 of the boiler 9, the bottom 8 easily buckles or bends when lateral presssure is applied to the boiler, or the bottom buckles inwardly incident to the weight of the boiler with the weight of the water therein. To obviate this difficulty the fitting 3 is provided with a reduced cylindrical portion 10 on which is loosely mounted a bushing 11, and which bushing rests on the annular flange 12 of the fitting. The upper end of the fitting above the reduced cylindrical portion 11 is provided with a reduced threaded portion 13, which is threaded at 14 in the bottom 8 of the boiler. Threaded on the bushing 11 is an annular flange 15 of a concaved bracing member 16, which bracing member is relatively large and has its edge 17 in engagement with the bottom of the boiler concentric with the reduced portion 11 and 13 of the fitting, but spaced a relatively wide distance from the centers of said reduced portions 11 and 13, thereby thoroughly bracing the bottom 8 of the boiler and forming a relatively wide supporting engagement with the bottom 8 of the boiler for preventing bending or buckling thereof. By forming the bushing 14 slightly larger than the reduced portion 11 as clearly shown in Figure 2, it will be -seen that when said bushing is rotated for tightening the concaved brace member 16, it will accommodate itself to any slight irregularities in the bottom 8 of the boiler incident to manufacture. When the bushing 11 is screwed downwardly while in engagement with the annular rib 12, it will be seen the concaved member 16 will be forced upwardly into close binding engagement with the bottom 8 of the boiler, and
said bottom 8 can not move upwardly as it is securely anchored to the reduced threaded portion 13 of the fitting, therefore the boiler will be positively braced and supported. It will also be seen by loosening the bushing 11, by threading the same into the annular flange 15 of the ooncav'ed brace member 16, the brace member can. be easily and quickly moved out of engagement With the bottom 8 of the boiler for allowing the boiler to be easily and quickly removed from the stand. It Will also be seen that the flange 15 may be held by a Wrench for preventing the brace member 16 from rotating with the bushing 11 during a tightening and untightening operation.
From the above it will be seen that a boiler stand connection is provided which is simple in construction may be easily and quickly applied or remover and constructed in a manner whereby the bottom of the boiler will be thoroughly braced at all times.

boiler supported by said stand, of a connection between said stand and the bottom of the boiler, said connection comprising a vertically disposed fitting carried by the stand, a cylindrical portion carried by said fitting and threaded in the bottom of the boiler, a bushing loosely mounted on the cylindrical portion and rotatable thereon, the lower end oi said bushing engaging an annular flange, a concaved member engaging the bottom of the boiler, said bushing being threaded into the conoaved member and forming means whereby upon rotation of the bushing the concaved member will be forced upwardly into engagement with the boiler Without axial movement of the bushing.
