With these points in view,'it will be noted that secured to the cylinder frame 15 at opposite sides of the cylinder are supporting brackets 21, in each of which is mounted a pin 22. Upon each of sai'dpins 22 is pivotally supported a carrier arm 23 normally pressed upwardly by an associated torsion spring 24, as shown in Figures 1 and 3, the spring 24 being connected to the arm 23 and pin 22. If, however, it is desired to rotate the register bar 33 from its normal functioning position, fo-r example, when it is desired to remove the transfer table, the same may be accomplishedby forcing the bar 33 laterally (using a screw driver fulcrumed in an adjacent notch 70), compressing the spring 35 unt-il the bar 33 is beyondH the confines of the slot 34, whereupon the bar may be rotated the desired amount. However, the position of the slot remains unaltered. When the bar 33 is rotated back to its original position, it will re-enter the slot 34 to occupy the positionit had prior to its withdrawal, without any variations with respect to its position relative to the upper surface of the transfer table. With the portion of the `head 32 locatedin the cupportion of member 69 and the bar 33 in the slot 34 of member 69, the bar 33 is clamped sccurely vby the action' of the spring 35. One
end of the register bar 33 is provided with a tapped portion .for the reception of an adjustable stop member 37 and terminates in a pin 38, said 'stop member 37 and its pin 38 during the actlon of registering passing into one of a plurality of grooves 39 in the transfer table. The stop member 37 is threaded into the bar 33 for making the final minor or delicate adjustment inconnection with registering the sheet material,
and is held in adjusted position by a pin cured to the bar by any suitable means 42. Y
In connection with the operation of the i sidel register mechanism, after make-ready it becomes necessary to locate or side register the sheet with reference to the printing form. In this connection a sheet of paper 43 is placed on the transfer table 18, usually by hand, in approximate location and the adjustable side guideor bar 33 with its attached parts is adjusted to stop the sheet (when the cylinder is at the lower end of its travel) for a trial impression. Error in the location as revealed by the trial impression, maybe corrected by the further adjustment of the side register, that is, by moving the graduated bar 26, which is connected to the side bar 3.3, longitudinally in the groove 27 of the carrier arm 23, whereupon the graduated bar 26 and its associated parts will be again clamped in position by the screw 29. It may be necessary to make a finer adjustment. This may be doneby rotating the stop button 37 one way or the other, whereupon it will be held in adjusted position by the spring-pressed pin 40. It will be understoodkv that the bar 33 is adjustable with respect to the graduated bar 26, and also with respect to the transfer table 18, so that the stop button 37 and pin 38 may` occupy any one of the grooves 39 in the transfer table 18, so that the stop button 37 will be approximately in the middle of the side edge of any sheet used. As soon as the sheet is definitelyu located on the transfer table, the indication on the slidably adjustable graduated bar 26 will be observed, and this indicates and determines the location of the stock pile 44 on the stock table 14, as it is now only necessary to adjust the stock guide 45 and its attached block 46 to 'the same reading on the scale 47 as indicated by the scale on the. graduated bar 26. Accordingly, stock may then be placed against the guide 45 and the other threeguides 48, 49 and 50 adjust to retain the stock pile in contact with the pile guide 45. A sheet now taken from the stock pile by automatic means and deposited on the transfer table will be off side register by a predetermined amount, as indicated at 51. The dipping motion of the transfer table from the position shown in Figure 3 to the position shown in Figure 4, it being understood that the transfer table is dipped by any suitable mechanism through a connection, as at 52, first registers the sheet against the cylinder grippers 71 and then a sidewise movement of the transfer table as described in my said copending application) carries .the sheet .against the side regisllo . in Figure 3, to its functioning position, as

' A modification of the side register mechanism is shown 'in Figures 6 and 7, in which the side register bar 56 has secured at its outer end a fixed stop butt-on 57 and pin58, the minor or line adiustmentbelng made by adjusting the pivotally mounted bar carrier 59 with respect'to the graduated laterally slidable bar 60. through the actuation of a nut 61 threaded on a stud 62, around which is coiled a spring 63 located intermediate the bar 60 and an arm of the bar carrier 59. The side register bar 56 is adj ustably held in position by means of a clamp 64 associated with the bar carrier 59, which is pivotally connected at 65 to the graduated slide har 60. The other parts are the same as that shown in the main figures of the drawing which disclose the preferred form.
